Tesco Homegrown All ireland Ladies
Intermediate Final .Desmonds ladies senior team are All ireland
Intermediate championship having defeated a fancied Clonbur team in the
final played in Corofin in Clare on Saturday
.Desmond were really up for this one and raced into an early lead with
points by Leanne Mangan ,Aine O Connor and lorraine Scanlon Clonbur s
first point came after 5 minutes but Desmonds roared on with 4 more
points from Leanne Mangan and on the 20th minute Desmonds lead by 0-7to
01 Clonbur finished stronger and added two more points as the game
reached the half time bell
Both teams added a point in the
early stages of the second half desmonds point coming from the very
buisy Rachel Cronin .In the 9th minute leanne mangan collected the ball
35 mts out and her shot sailed in and deceivd the keeper for the first
goal of the game .Clonbur fought back with all their might and added a
goal and a point with 15 mns left just 3 points seperated the teams
Desmonds backs stood up to the massive onslought and kept Clonbur at bay
Leanne Mangan Took off again as she added 2 more points Elaine Guiney
just minutes on the pitch pointed from 20 mts and Laboishe Wamsley also
came on as a sub and pointed from 15 mtr line this was Desmonds final
score as Clonbur added one more to see Desmonds Win by 2-11 to 1- 06.
Desmonds
had huge support in Corofin and when GAA president pat Quill presented
Captain Lorraine Scanlon with the cup the roar from the supporters
could be heard in Castleisland ,Knocknagoshel Cordal and Brosna .Cait
Lynch collected the best player award .on the day every player was
superb and great credit is due to all involved .This is the third All
Ireland ladies title for the club the last two were won in 1983 and 1984
.Desmonds also have the very eunike distinction of the only club in the
history of the GAA to win both the womens and mens Club all ireland
Championship .
A huge bonfire in Knocknagoshel welcomed the
team back home then it was on to Castleisland where Fireworks and
another bonfire greeted the team.off the bus at Limerick rd Corner and a
torchlight procession through the town the team went on stage at Jk O
connors And Were Introduced to the massive Crowd ,
