DID YOU KNOW. The Beale Club was only formed in 1971 and only played in the North Kerry Senior Championship for the first time in 1976. However looking back now on what the Club achieved in the year 1977; many followers of Beale G A A would point to the winning of the North Kerry Under 16 Championship in 1974 as the start of the success story for the Club. In their first year they reached the North Kerry Junior Final but were defeated by Desmonds, up to that time Beale had played their football with St. Patricks in Ballybunion. Back to the Under 16 win in 1974 many felt it was the springboard for the minor success the following year. That Under 16 side defeated County Champions Desmonds in the semi final and Listowel in the final by 6pts. There was no fewer than 12 of the winning Under 16 team on the Minor success of 1975. However in 1977 Beale really became of age as they swept aside all opposition and went twenty nine games without defeat. In fact it was the last game of the year against Beaufort when they were beaten 5-10 to 4-9. The first success was the winning of the North Kerry League Division 2 when they defeated Brosna 2-15 to 0-6; with Mike Shannahan the top scorer with 1-8. The Seasiders continued with Scartaglin going down in the Novice County Championship, then in the North Kerry Senior Championship Beale with wins over Duagh, Desmonds, Moyvane and Ballylongford who were pre match favourites in the final was some achievement with Beale given little chance. One week after winning the Senior Championship the Under 21 side completed a unique double by winning the inaugural Under 21 North Kerry Title and completed the double the following year. The saying goes “a good start is half the beginning” and certainly was proved right as Beale went on to become one of the top teams in the County.

DID YOU KNOW. That Shannon Rangers won their first County Championship at under-age level was back in 2003 when the North Kerry side put back to back titles together at Under 14 level. Rangers had an inauspicious start to the campaign when they were beaten 6-16 to 4-16 in the first round to Mid Kerry in Milltown. The loosers round saw them pitted against Eoghan Ruagh and after a tough enough encounter won by a six point margin played at Glenflesk. Next up was Tralee (a combination of Austin Stacks, Kerins O Rahillys and John Mitchels) in the semi final. The game which was played at Mountcoal was a terrific advert for football and Rangers pulled away in the closing stages to secure a 3-13 to 2-9 victory and as a result of this win a final place awaited and a chance to get one over on Mid Kerry who were easy first round winners when the sides clashed. Kerins O Rahillys was the venue for the decider on Sunday June 29th. Mid Kerry were warm favourites but Rangers stood firm and at the interval Rangers led 4-3 to 1-7, their ability to get goals being the highlight of the first half. It was more of the same on resumption with the Shannonsiders on top; however Mid Kerry threw caution to the wind to score two goals and leave the bare minimum between the sides. Now Rangers experience of being title holders stood to them and they carved out a tremendous victory scoring two unanswered points in the closing minutes for a three point victory.
