North Kerry Junior Leagues
Sponsored by McCarthy Insurance Listowel
Division 3 Final
Listowel Emmets B 2.12  v Ballydonoghue B 1.13
Report by North Kerry Football Board Secretary Mairead O Sullivan

This game was played in a sun drenched O'Rahilly Park Ballylongford, on Tuesday night last.  Thank you to Ballylongford GAA for the use of their excellent facilities. There seemed to be an urgency about this game that I haven't seen in a Junior League Final in some years, were the rivalry between these two clubs, brought out the best in their players on both sides to make for a fast attacking game of football and a pleasure to watch for the neutral. It was the Emmets men who started the scoreboard ticking over with a point from David Keane a late inclusion to the programme in the opening minute, three minutes later Ballydonoghue Jack Behan replied kicking the ball over the bar.  Emmets took over for a period of dominance with young Sam Tarrant excellent at winning the diagonal ball kicked into the full forward line, and tormented his marker.  Emmets added five more points without reply from the Ballydonoghue men, points from Noel Kennelly 2pts (1f), Sam Tarrant 2pts and a point from wing back Eibhin O'Brien.  It was the young gunner Brian Mason who rallied the Ballydonoghue boys adding a point in the 15 minute of play to drive the comeback, midfielder and team veteran Martin O'Mahony rose to the challenge and ran at the Emmets defence driving the ball in from the stand side of the pitch to tuck the ball into the left top corner of the net for the first goal of the game to send the Ballydonoghue supporters into joyous cheer, game on with now just a point between the teams and 17 minutes gone on the clock. Ballydonoghue tails were up and again young Brian Mason split the posts a minute later to bring the sides level with Ballydonoghue full forward Stephen Foley adding another to go a point up.  With the play swaying from side to side it was eventually Emmets who used possession wisely for the second goal of the game from wing forward Dara Hughes from a overcrowded goal mouth Hughes toe poked the ball past the Ballydonoghue number 1 to raise the green flag, Emmets were back in the game.  Ballydongohue's young players again drove at the Emmets experienced defence with Jack Behan adding another 2 points (1f) and Dermot O Connor a point before the halftime whistle.  But the goal scorer for the Emmets Dara Hughes wasn't quite finished and added another point to bring the sides level at the break 1.07 a piece.

Second half and you could see that the heat on this May evening was having a draining effect on the players, It took over two minutes for the white flag to rise in this half which came from Emmet's sub Sean Gilbert.  again veteran Noel Kennelly split the posts, But it was the Ballydonoghue men that now had their period of dominance with points coming from Geariod Kissane, Jack Behan, and a free converted by Brian Mason to bring Ballydonoghue a point up.  Watching from the sideline you could sense that Noel Kennelly's experience was telling him that his young team were failing in the heat and took it upon himself with the help of two of Emmet's most experienced men holding defence Shane Quinn and driving the middle third of the pitch John Heaphy to rally the townies, a free converted by Emmets David Keane to bring the sides level was quickly followed by Noel Kennelly ducking and weaving his way into the goal mouth to pass a ball across the pitch for young Adam Mulvihill to pam the ball to the back of the Ballydonoghue net for the third goal of the game, to the joy of the Emmet's supporters again Kennelly lay down a marker three minutes later to swing his leg to kick the ball over his shoulder to split the posts leaving four points between the side it was all Emmets and with five minutes of normal time left on the clock it was Emmets David Keane who scored the last point of the game for the townies.  But Ballydonoghue never gave up and with four minutes of added time they drove at the Emmets defence adding two more points from the boots of midfielder Martin O'Mahony and Declan Behan but all their efforts were to fall short and the Emmets men held onto their title for a second year, Emmets captain John Heaphy accepted the cup from competition sponsor Con McCarthy, McCarthy Insurances Listowel.

Listowel Emmets 0.09 v St Senans 0.08

Listowel Emmetts were crowned Div.1 champions of the oConnors Hardware and Farm Supplies North Kerry Minor championship after a hard earned one point win over St.Senans last Sunday in Duagh. St.Senans with the aid of the wind were first to get on the scoreboard with points by Daragh Stack and Cathal Kennelly in the opening 10 minutes, Listowel despite also having chances early on had to wait until the 11th min for their opening point coming from Sam Tarrant. Their was an immediate reply by Senans when Cathal Kennelly converted a point from a free. Moments later Senans put 3pts between the teams when corner forward Jack Hennessy slotted over their fourth point.Unfortunately that was the last point of the half for St.Senans and it was Listowel who got into their stride when Sean Keane with a good point added their second. In the 20th min Sam Tarrant began what for him was a very influential period of the game when he drew Listowel level with two well taken points from play and the same player gave Listowel the lead for the first time when he converted a free. In the final minute of the opening half Daragh Loughnane gave Emmetts a two point lead at the interval.
As with the first half again it was St Senans who were first off the mark with a Conor Kennelly point in the first minute. Unfortunately for Senans shortly after that opening score they lost wing back Padraig Dillon to a second yellow card. Still St Senans kept pressing and midfielder Barry oMahony levelled with a well taken point to leave the scores 6 points each. In the 11th minute Listowel were reduced to 14 when corner back oSullivan got his marching orders. St Senans who now were against the wind continued to press and were rewarded when Jack Hennessy put them back in front on the 13th minute. Sam Tarrant levelled 2 minutes later and that was followed by the lead point again when full back Niall Collins put over a point. Exchanges were tight throughout the pitch as we entered the final moments. It was so intense that both sides were guilty of giving possession away and it was Listowel who capitalised on this when again it was that man Sam Tarrant who put over to give them a 2 point cushion going into injury time. St.Senans were very unlucky to hit the post with a free directly after and in another immediate attack Cathal Kennelly left the minimum between the teams but unfortunately for St.Senans time ran out and Listowel were champions and captain Rob Smith received the shield from sponsor Larry oConnor Hardware supplies Duagh.  Ref was Tomas oRourke Ballyduff   Final score Listowel Emmetts 0. 09 St.Senans 0.08

Semi  Final
St Senans 3.12 v Tarbert 0.11
St.Senans booked their place in this years North Kerry Championship final after a comprehensive and well deserved victory over Tarbert at Frank Sheehy Park Listowel. Played on excellent ground conditions and perfect weather the game never lived up to expectations.  Tarbert with a Shane O'Connor free in the first minute opened the scoring. An immediate reply also from a free by David Behan levelled for Senans. It took until the seventh minute for the next point which came from full forward Padraig Quille Senans slotting over from 30 yards out. Tarbert levelled a minute later when a high ball in broke off full forward Donal Leahy and off the break Michael Carrig popped over. Unfortunately for Tarbert after that score the wheels came off the wagon. Senans on a swift break and Sean T Dillon found Padraig Quille who gave keeper John Kennedy no chance in the Tarbert goal. A few minutes later the same player added a point and that was followed by a pointed free by Sean oConnell. Now suddenly Tarbert were six points down when David Behan put over after 15 minutes. In fact it could have been worse for Tarbert only for John Kennedy in the net saving from David Behan to put the ball out for a 45. But from the resultant 45 the ball broke to the in running David Behan who blasted to the net. With Tarbert now shell shocked they showed great courage and character to try and bring themselves back into contention. They were now getting their hands on the ball in the middle of the field and when attacking they drew three frees off the Senans defence all put over by corner forward Andrew Doherty. In the 25th minute Cathal Kennelly got a point in reply and again another attack by Tarbert resulted in another pointed free from Andrew Doherty.Noel Kennedy operating at wing back got another point for Tarbert. In injury time a ball kicked in from 45yards for Senans by David Foran deceived the keeper and rebounded out off the crossbar to leave the half time score St.Senans 2. 06 Tarbert 0. 07. At the restart Tarbert needed to get off to a good start but it was Senans who added the first two points of the half with two points by Sean oConnell(one a free).Points were exchanged Mark Buckley and Shane oConnor for Tarbert and Padraig Quille and David Behan for Senans. At this stage midway through the second half the only way you could see Tarbert getting back in this game was if they could engineer a goal and except for one chance they had you could never see that goal coming. In the 17th minute of the half Senans centre forward David Foran added a third goal and this well and truly ended the game as a contest. To make matters worse defender Jason Wrenn received a second yellow card.As  the game drifted to conclusion Tarbert keeper John Kennedy saved a penalty from Padraig Quille and a further exchange of points by Quille and sub Ronan Kerins for Senans and two pointed frees by Andrew Doherty for Tarbert left the final score  St.Senans 3. 12 Tarbert 0. 11. St Senans are in their first North Kerry Championship final since 2000 when they lost to Ballylongford. On current form there is no reason why they can't go a step further this time and bring the title back to Mountcoal for the first time in the clubs history. Padraig Quille, David Behan and David Foran gave the Tarbert defence a torrid afternoon. As for Tarbert they know they are much better than this performance and really the only players who played up to the mark for them was keeper John Kennedy and corner forward Andrew Doherty. Ref was Mike Hennessy and Senans now await the winners of next Sunday's semi final between Listowel and Ballydonoghue as they look forward to the final on Sunday Dec.18th

BARRY SEALS JUNIOR CUP TITLE FOR ST SENAN’S.
St Senan’s 1-06 Duagh 0-07
St Seanan’s are the Moloney & McCarthy Accountants sponsored North Kerry Junior Cup Champions for 2016 after a nail biting finish at sun drenched O’Sullivan Memorial Park, Finuge on Sunday last. One could not ask for better conditions at the Finuge venue with the only hindrance being a downfield breeze which blew from the roadside and was brisk all through with neither side aiding from this advantage. This was in every sense of the word a game of two halves with these two neighbouring rivals giving it everything. The opening half saw some delightful passages of football, but scores were not as plentiful as both sides squandered some very scorable opportunities. Senan’s decided to take advantage of the breeze in the opening half, but did not make any good use of this advantage, and in fact it was Duagh that had the more turnovers in that opening half as it was Duagh that sprung into a 2pt lead inside the first five minutes without reply from their opponents. By the end of the first quarter Duagh had extended this lead to 0-4 to 0-2. Play was sloppy in those last few minutes of the opening period and again both sides were guilty of poor scoring abilities with Duagh enjoying that two point lead at the short whistle 0-06 to 0-04. On the resumption Senan’s  made two vital substitutions John Barry coming in for Ray Nolan and Padraig Dillon replacing Timmy O’ Sullivan and from the throw in got stuck in to the task in hand. A point from Ronan Collins saw the minimum between the sides after 2 minutes. But I am afraid everybody was starved as no scores were registered for another full twelve minutes and with a lot of sloppy play which involved stray passing, bad shooting and just sheer frustration as players were tiring quickly the game seemed to be losing its shape. It was the 44th minute before Eoin O’Connell converted a 13metre free to tie up the affair and put Senan’s in pole position. Duagh took the lead again a minute later with their only point of the second half coming from the boot of  Der Hayes indeed at this juncture we all thought that a replay was on the cards as no side looked like taking the lead never mind the killer blow. But it was Alan Kennelly who had played and outstanding game all through (and would easily have qualified for a man of the match accolade if there was such an award) fetched neatly on the right wing 30yds out, soloed and dogged his way through with a blistering run in along the end line in which the Duagh goalkeeper John Halpin advanced on him, but a quick flick to the incoming John Barry who made no mistake in palming to an empty Duagh net for a dream goal. This was the lifeline that St Senan’s wanted and with the clock quickly approaching the end there was no way back for Duagh. So St Senan’s were victorious on the sound of the long whistle from Mike Joy with Padraig Kennelly receiving the Brendan Boyle Memorial Cup to delight of his team and supporters.  Teams: St Senan’s: Darragh Kennelly, Kieran Lyons, Alan Kennelly (C) Jack Twomey, Pa Quille, Mark Behan, Bill Keane, Eoin O’ Connell, Mike Keane, Raymond Nolan, Cathal Kennelly, Timmy O’Sullivan, Darragh Stack, Ronan Kerins, Donnacha Brosnan. Ballydonoghue 2.14 v Asdee 1.07
The sides were level at three points apiece after 10mins. Two minutes later a Ballydonoghue player brought down inside the square and Paul Kennelly made no mistake from the resulting penalty. Ballydonoghue then added two more points without reply to stretch their lead to five.  Asdee then had their best spell and kicked two points in quick succession, one a long range effort from Darragh.Keane. But just as Asdee were getting to grips with the game a 30m shot from Jim Cremin that looked to be tailing wide struck the upright and dropped into the grateful hands of Jack Foley and he duly dispatched to the Asdee net. Again, Asdee fought back and added two more points before the half time whistle. HT Ballydonoghue 2-5 Asdee 0-7.
The second half was all one-way traffic after Martin O’Mahony stretched Ballydonoghue’s led to five points after 30sec. Ballydonoghue then scored nine points without reply, until the 56min when Noel Long struck for a consolation goal from Asdee after Ballydonoghue had emptied their bench. Asdee weren’t helped when one of their players was shown a second yellow in the final quarter but by then the writing was already on the cards. Final Score Ballydonoghue 2-14 Asdee 1-7.

Ballylongford 1.07 v Moyvane 2.15
Moyvane are now in the Quarter Finals of the Bernard O'Callaghan Senior Football Championship after a second half performance that outshone their neighbours Ballylongford in O'Rahilly Park Ballylongford in front of a large local crowd. It was a slow pondurance affair for both teams in the opening stages of the game it took 8 minutes for the first score from Moyvane Timmy Noonan, with the ball travelling the length of O'Rahilly Park but no forward adding their name to the score sheet until Ballylongfords Eddie Mangan kicked a long diagonal ball into the square for the ever ready corner forward Ciaran O Connor to rattle the Boro mens net, to send life into the game in the 19th minute, but as soon as the Bally men celebrated their lead the kick out went the Moyvane way only for the opposite corner forward Colin Enright to reply with a goal in the 20th minute to set up a exciting finish to the first it was point for point going in at the break.  half time Moyvane 1.04 v Ballylongford 1.04
Second half and an under power Ballylongford just ran out of steam, Moyvane had the bright opening start that was needed to pull away with an opening free converted by Martin Stack and from here on in Ballylongford couldn't control mid field, with Moyvane Donal Leahy and John Jack Mulvihill breaking fast on attack when in possession, Moyvane went on from here to score 1.09 in the half the goal coming from Colin Enright to Ballylongford 3 points, so it is back to the drawing board for my neighbours Ballylongford to regroup and get some of their injured players back in action for the County League 2017 and for Moyvane  await Tarbert next weekend for another local derby in the Quarter Finals.

St Senans 4.12 v Duagh 0.06.
This game was played on Saturday last the third of the first round games with Mountcoal in pristine condition I would like to thank Aidan Behan and his committee in the Senans GAA Club for such great organisation which added to the Championship  fever.  As the scoreline suggests this was a one sided affair, Senans were  fresh and sharp to the ball with an intensity that suggested we are here and the Championship is in our sights. Duagh were always chasing the game managing 2 ptis in the first half to Senans 2.06 goals from Sean O'Connell and David Foran , Duagh always seemed be a man down as Senans always had the runner breaking free in attack.  But whatever hope Duagh had in the second half the third goal by Senans Cathal Kennelly with forty minutes on the clock finished any comeback that was on the cards.  Duagh did manage to added a further 4pts in the second half but St Senans were ruthless and added a further 2.06 to bring the full time score to Senans 4.12 v Duagh 0.06  Referee Stephen Mulvihill Ballylongford.

Novice Cup Final
Ballylongford 0.06 v Brosna 4.07
This was a game of two halves, with Ballylongford kicking wide after wide in the first half which they paid for dearly. The first half was a game of missed chances and turnovers on both sides, Ballylongford men were moving the ball better but where it mattered they did not make it count, Brosna found it hard to get going and only for the first goal from Steve McAuliffe which kept them in the game it could be a whole different story.

But it was the second half that Brosna woke from their slumber and  always looked like rattling the Bally mens net and that is just what they did in the second half, Brosna were direct in front of goal adding 3 goals two more from Steve McAuliffe and a goal from Seamus McAuliffe and 6 points of the half.  The Bally men had no answer and failed to score in the half with their backs under pressure from the throw in,  Ballylongford did have possession but as soon as the ball went into the full forward line it came straight back out, adding to the frustration on the pitch.  Its back to the drawing board for Ballylongford while Borsna B are the Novice Cup Champions for 2016 stopping Listowel Emmets from getting 5 in a row on the way. North Kerry Minor League Division 1 Final
Ballydonoghue 3.06 v St Senans 2.12
This game was played in Con Brosnan Park Moyvane on Saturday evening last, with Asdee Ger D Carroll overseeing matters. The game was played at championship pace with both sides playing some hard and tough football, it was always Senans who looked more likely to rattle the net moving the ball at pace and kicking it into the full forward line, the Ballydonoghue men chose to carry the ball out of defence moving it slower allowing Senans to filter back, although Ballydonoghue did give Senans Number 1 Danny Quilter plenty of work which he duly took care off to deny the retention of division 1 champions title to the Ballydonoghue men.

It was Ballydonoghue first on the scoreboard with a free converted by Jack Behan in the opening minute, a quick reply from Senans Darragh Stack to level matters, for the next two minutes the play went up and down the pitch until Ballydonoghue Brian Mason split the posts in the 4th minute, it was all St Senans from here on in adding 3pts, with captain Cathal Kennelly converting two from free and a point from play for Darragh Kennelly until Ballydonoghue came down the pitch on attack to strike for goal only to have Danny Quilter Senans make a brave decision to come of his line to smother the shoot and send a wave of confidence through his team who went on to score 3 more points from play, Jack Hennessy, Barry O'Mahony, and Conor Kennelly. Ballydonoghue were awarded a penalty in the 16th minute which Jack Behan duly converted to bring his team right back into the game and added a further point from play before the halftime whistle.  Score 1.04 Ballydonoghue v 0.08 St Senans.

Second half and  It was Ballydonoghue who got the off to the brighter start with a point from Stephan Mason in the opening minute, for the next 19 minutes the Senans men upped the anty and drove at the Ballydonoghue backs, with Cathal Kennelly laying down a marker for his team scoring two goals in the 12th and 20th minutes and full forward Conor Kennelly adding a point.  Just when it looked to the neutral that the Senans boys had the game, Ballydonoghue Jack Behan converted a free followed shortly after by Stephen Mason who  struck for goal to bring his team right back into the game with only a goal between the sides and 8 minutes of normal time left on the clock. But Cathal Kennelly Senans took his role as captain very serious and lead by example  splitting the posts to give his team a 4 point cushion going into the latter stages of the game but in quick reply  and right on the 30th minute Ballydonoghue Dan Power rattled the Senans net to leave a point between the sides with 5 minutes of extra time added on it was a nail biting finish.  Two minutes into extra time and again Cathal Kennelly split the posts added quickly to by brother Conor Kennelly giving Senans a three point lead, but right on the 35th minute a penalty awarded to Ballydonoghue was read well by Senans goal keeper Danny Quilter to deny the game going to extra time.  Full time score Ballydonoghue 3.06 v St Senans 2.12

Senior Division 2 North Kerry League Final
Sponsored by McCarthy Insurance Listowel
Ballyduff 0.05 v Ballylongford 2.10
In a sun drenched O’Sullivan Park, Finuge on Saturday afternoon last Ballylongford captured their second league title in three years by winning the McCarthy Insurance Brokers Listowel sponsored North Kerry Division 2 League Final in a game that saw some exciting passages of clean open and sporting football. However Ballyduff came into this game at a disadvantage due to the unavailability of two of their key dual players namely Jack Goulding and Mikey Boyle who were otherwise engaged with Shinty duties that day. But over the hour Ballyduff had several opportunities squandered with some disastrous kicking resulting in non fewer than 10 wides in the opening half. Conditions as stated were ideal with brilliant sunshine no wind and the Finuge Club must be complimented for the excellent condition that they had their facilities in. The first half was nip and tuck during the opening quarter with scores being of the minimum Ballylongford opening their account after 50 seconds when Kieran O’Connor made the first of his many blistering bursts through the Ballyduff defence to be fouled in the process and he duly converted the resulting free from 30 metres. Ballyduff tied up matters 15 minutes later when Barry O’ Grady converted a 20meter free after Roger Costello was pulled down which also resulted in a yellow card for Keith Tydings. Ballyduff took the lead on the 20th with a very impressive movement starting with Roger Costello who caught cleanly at mid field and an inch perfect pass to David Goulding who passed quickly to Barry O’Grady who could have as easily found the net, but his shot just edged over the crossbar to put the minimum between the sides. Ballylongford seemed to come alive on the 25th minute and from that until the 32nd minute had added 6 wonderful scores without reply from the Cashensiders. Five of these scores (2 from frees) coming from the boot of Kieran O’ Connor , the other coming from a gem of a point from Jack Mulvihill after a peach of a pass from Paudie O’Neill. These brace of scores gave the Ballylongford boys a 5pt cushion 0-07 to 0-02 at the interval.

The second half began with a fierce onslaught on the Ballylongford defence and with a hugely dangerous move between Barry O’Grady who put Eddie Joy through for what looked to have goal written all over it, but was denied by a blistering save by Paudie Moroney. This was Paudies first of three very impressive and excellent goal keeping duties over the hour in which he saved his sides bacon. But Ballyduff did get some consolation from the resulting kick out as Barry O’ Grady fielded but was again fouled and Eddie Joy duly converted. But that was to be his sides last score for a further 20 minutes. It was from here on that Ballylongford had the best of the exchanges and with a bullet of a goal coming from the foot of Jack Mulvihill after Joe McCarthy fielding he quickly delivered to Eddie Mangan who laid off to Mulvihill who made no mistake. This was the tonic that the boys in blue needed and they really rallied from here with Kieran O’Connor adding two more points from frees inside the third quarter before Eddie Mangan flicked a floating ball from Joe McCarthy over his head and pass Sean Browne in the Ballyduff goal to seal the issue. Ballyduff did reply with two white flag efforts but it was not merely enough at that stage. So the contest was over at this stage and when Eddie Anthony Walsh who had a marvellous blew the long whistle Ballylongford players and supporters were overjoyed and relieved that they had achieved their second league title in three years. Ballyduff fought bravely and were great sportsmen all through, but they will rue their 15 wide chances (10 in the first half)  because if they had scored half of them the issue might have been different. In contrast the victors had only 6 wides over the hour. So Ballylongford are now set to compete in Division 1 next season with Ballyduff remaining in Division 2. Teams and scorers: Ballylongford: Paudie Moroney, Keith Tydings, Stephen Foley, Stephen Mulvihill, Thomas Doherty, Joe McCarthy, Darren Murphy, Tadgh McEllestrim, Eamon McElligott, Paidi O’Neill (0-1), Niall Heaphy, Jack Mulvihill (1-1), Matt O’Connor, Eddie Mangan (1-0), Kieran O’ Connor (8pts – 5Frees). Subs: Jason Deegan for Eamon McElligott, Liam McCarthy for Darren Murphy  Ballyduff: Sean Browne, Johnny Regan, Sean Costello, Thomas Slattery, John Paul Leahy, Anthony O’ Carroll, Cathal Kearney, Roger Costello, Evan Doyle, Eddie Joy (0-2), David Goulding, Paul O’Carroll, Padraig Slattery, Padraig Boyle, Barry O’Grady (0-3). Knocknagoshel 0.07  v Listowel Emmets 6.18
This game was played in Walsh Park Knocknagoshel on Saturday last, the second first round game of the Bernard O'Callaghan Senior Football Championship for 2016, the scoreline does not reflect the full story of the game.  Knocknagoshel brought intensity and determination to the pitch showing that they feared no team,  in the first twenty minutes, Knocknagoshel held Championship favourites Emmets to four points, winning the midfield battle during this period of the game and replying point for point with Emmet's, But in the 21st minute Emmets Bryan Sweeney pointed unleashing the Emmets beast.

It was all Listowel Emmet's from here on in for the next 40 minutes, notching up 6 goals and 14 points goals from Jake Moriarty, Niall Collins in the first half, and Conor Cox (2), Brian Murphy and sub Dara Hughes in the second half of the game. Staring for Emmets where some of their young guns Sam Tarrant showing well in the forwards and Niall Collins in the backs showing maturity beyond his age. But when Emmet's kicked into gear Knocknagoshel had no answer, what Emmets learnt from this game going forward never underestimate any team, Knocknagoshel for next year to build on their first twenty minutes performance.

NORTH KERRY LEAGUE Division 1  Semi Final
Sponsored by McCarthy Insurance Listowel
 Tarbert 3. 07 Castleisland Demsonds 1. 10.

Played in O'Sullivan Park Finuge last Sunday it was Tarbert who booked their place in this years North Kerry League final when they defeated Castleisland Desmond's on a scoreline of 3. 07 to 1. 10. In the opening exchanges both sides struggled to bring the ball within scoring distance with both defenses on top it took until the 15th min. for the first score to come that a free from Tarbert corner forward Andy Doherty. Castleisland Desmond's responded immediately with points by Sean Lynch and Maurice Hickey. In the 20th min sloppy defending resulted in a penalty for Tarbert which was converted by Andy Doherty. This was a very important score in the context of the game as Castleisland Desmond's were playing with a very strong wind in the first half. That goal sprung them into action and they took charge of the game at this stage kicking excellent points from play by Thomas Lynch, Sean Lynch and two from Graham oConnor (1f). In the final min. of the half tempers flared with the result been Tarbert had Jason and Danny Wren sent off and Castleisland lost Pat Fitzgerald. Ref Mike Hennessy then blew for half time with the score Castleiland Desmonds  0. 06  Tarbert 1. 01 Playing with the wind in the second half Tarbert got off to the best possible start when Kevin Enright hit a great shot to the roof of the Castleisland net in the third min. Again this brought Castleisland to life but they wasted  numerous scoring chances in the first 10 mins most of them were the result of poor finishing. This proved very costly. To make matters worse Tarbert made the most of the chances they got adding 4 further points by Andy Doherty two excellent points from play and two frees. In the 22nd min.a high ball into the Castleisland square was fumbled by the keeper and substitute Sean Holly was on hand to kick to the net to put Tarbert in complete control. Castlleisland did respond and a minute later a ball into the Tarbert square was punched to the net by Seanie Prendeville, the same player added another point a minute later to inject some life into the Castleisland Desmonds  challenge. A further exchange of points by Kennedy and Buckley for Tarbert and Maurice Hickey and Sean Lynch for Castleisland Desmonds left the final score Tarbert 3. 07 Castleisland Desmond's 1. 10. For Tarbert the main reason for their victory was the performance of corner forward Andy Doherty who got 1. 05 also as in many games goals win games and the concession of those 3 goals at crucial times cost Castleiland Desmonds dearly. When Castleisland were on top early in the second half they were guilty of very poor finishing when easy chances presented themselves`Finally Tarbert operating in the second half with 13 men against 14 made much better use of the strong wind to run out deserving winners. Ref Mike Hennessy managed this game with a no nonsense approach. A breath of fresh air in a well contested game

Minor North Kerry Division 2 League Final
Desmond's 2-14  Moyvane/Tarbert 3-6.

Castleisland Desmond's secured a well merited win over Moyvane/Tarbert in an entertaining D2 Minor final in Coolard last Monday evening.

Desmond's dominated the midfield exchanges with Adam O Donoghue and Kieran Breen in fine form.  Tadhg Walsh lead the forwards with an excellent goal and they lead by 1-3 to 0-3 after 20 mins. A Shane O Connell goal and points from Sean Prendeville gave them a secure 2-6 to 0-3 lead at half time although Dylan Browne had to make some great saves.

Every team will enjoy their purple patch and Moyvane/Tarbert roared back into contention with 2 penalties converted by Cillian Langan. Desmond's maintained their lead with some great points from wing back David Shanahan and Pairic O Connor.  A great individual goal from Mike Heaphy in the closing minutes wasn't sufficient for Tarbert/Moyvane and at the end it was Desmond's 2-14  Moyvane/Tarbert 3-6.

It was above all a team performance from Desmond's with every player giving it their all.  It is a credit to Manager Jim O Connor and D.J. Brosnan that the team had developed so well.

The plaque was presented to Tadhg Walsh by Mairead O Sullivan, Secretary of the North Kerry Board who thanked the Ballydonoghue club and referee Mike Joy Ballydonoghue

Desmond's:  Tadhg Walsh 1-3;  David Shanahan 0-3;  Sean Prendeville 0-2;  Pairic O Connor 0-2;  Shane O Connell 1-0;  Padraig O Connell, Luka Brosnan, Kieran Breen, Daithi O Leary 01 each
Tarbert/Moyvane:  Cillian Langan 2-1; Mike Heaphy 1-0; Shea Leahy, Kevin Dillon, Eamon Callaghan, Colin Enright 0-1 each

Ballyduff 2.09 v Asdee 0.08

This game was played in misty wet conditions, in Listowel Emmets on Wednesday last, with Emmets Referee Dermot Hughes overseeing matters.  It was Asdee Darragh Keane and Eoin Tydings who lit up the scoreboard scoring between them 5pts out of the 7pts scored in the half. Ballyduff found it hard to make the ball stick in the forward line, with Eddie Joy keeping Ballyduff's hopes alive scoring 2pts (1f). But the turning point was a long ball in from Ballyduff Evan Doyle which stuck in the top left hand corner of the net for a goal.  Half time score Asdee 0.07 v Ballyduff 1.02

It was the second half that Ballyduff awoken from their slumber, driving at Asdee relentlessly, scoring 1.7 in the half the goal from midfielder Anthony Carroll,  Asdee had no answer only managing a point from a free converted by Eoin Tydings.  The second half performance from a very understrength Ballyduff side who were missing some big names was enough to put them in a final place meeting Ballylongford.

Teams: Asdee, James Kelly, Eoin Carroll, Martin Collins cpt, Michael Tydings, Brain Coughlan, Sean Keane, Kieran Kelly, John Doran, Darragh Keane, Mike Breen, Eoin Kennedy, Eoin Tydings. Matthew O Hanlon, Paul Carroll, Denny Dalton.

Ballylongford/Asdee 2.20  v Beale 2.07

Report by Jack Hennessy
Glory for the combination side at O Rahilly Park, Ballylongford on Saturday last which saw the home side retain the title and cruise to another  North Kerry Minor Championship football Division 2  title. In fairness to Beale who had to line out without their Kerry Minor Cormac Linnane out through injury had their fair share of possession and went toe to toe with Asdee/Bally in the early stages and led after 17mts when Jonathan Carr snatched a goal and this was due to some tremendous work by Johnny O Sullivan at midfield, Calium McSweeney at number 6, Fionan Twoomey at 5, along with Darragh Buckley and Cillian Courtney in attack they contested each ball well but the overall strength and determination of their opponents seemed  too much for a game Seasiders. Still on saying that the combination side seemed always in control and with both Jack Keane and Darren Murphy excelling in defence; Jack Mulvihill in flying form at midfield, substitute Ciaran Dowd excelling when introduced Eoin O Connor wing forward along with captain Ciaran O Connor giving a man of the match performance and chief tormenter to the visitors rearguard and after a close opening half Asdee/Bally just strolled to a convincing 13pt victory in a one sided remaining 30mts. The game got underway with the home side favourites to lift the title and within 2mts Beales Darragh Buckley opened the scoring from a close in free and less than a minute later Ciarain O Connor who was to regester a staggering tally of 1-8, (5f) leveled maters from a free. For the next 6mts or so it was tit for tat with points coming from Ciarain O Connor and Jack Mulvihill for the home side and Darragh Buckley for Beale and which saw Bally/Asdee lead 0-4 to 0-2. However the Seasiders struck a hammer blow to their opponents when Johnny O Sullivans long delivery say Jonathan get on the end to crash to the net with 13mts left in the half as Beale led 1-2 to 0-4. Johnny O Sullivan extended their lead with a superb point followed by further points by Darragh Buckley. However Asdee/Bally held firm and it was the games top man Ciaran O Connor who levelled up matters again with a well taken goal. The combination side finished the half in style with substitute Ciaran Dowd stamping his mark in the game with 2 excellent points to leave the half time score; Asdee/Bally 1-7  Beale 1-5. On resumption Asdee/Bally got quickly into the game inside 30 seconds with Jack Mulvihill pointing. This was to set the tone for the remainder of the game as the combination side were to take complete control kicking some fantastic points coming from; Eoin O Connor, Ciarain Dowd, Tadhg McEllistrim, Darragh Keane and especially Ciarain O Connor who kicked 6 second half points finished off by a 17th mt goal from Jack Mulvihill. Beale did have their moments in this half but they were few and far between; Darragh Buckley and Calumn McSweeney added points with Killian Walsh O Boyle getting in for a 15mt goal but was too little too late as the combination side finished well deserving victors After the game Treasurer of the North Kerry Board; John Joe Walsh was on hand to present the Shield to the winners Captain Ciaran O Connor amid great scenes of celebration. Final Score; Asdee/Bally 2-20  Beale 2-7. Teams and scorers; Asdee/Bally; Cian Barrett, Sean Carmody, James O Connor, Paul Murphy, Darren Murphy, Jack Keane, Tadhg McEllistrim, 1pt, Jack Mulvihill, 1-3, Thomas Doherty, Darragh Keane, 1pt, Eoin O Connor, 3pts, Michael Holly, Ciarain O Connor, 1-8. Ballylongford 1-8 Asdee 0-12
Ballylongford made their exit from the North Kerry Championship at the first hurdle once again after a one point loss to neighbours Asdee after a close fought game in perfect conditions at Stack Park Ballybunion.
The return of Eddie Mangan Ballylongford after a serious knee injury was welcomed
But it was Asdee who were match fit from a recent County Novice Semi Final, Asdee got off to a flying start and were three point up without reply after five minutes.but failed to score again until the 27th minute. Things were to get a lot tougher for Ballylongford with the dismissal of Eamon Mcelligott after a second bookable offence.
Credit to Ballylongford they responded with the next three points to bring the sides level with Niall Heaphy Ballylongford opening their account in the 14th minute. The game continued in a stop start fashion and it was the 26th minute before the next score a point from Asdee Eoin Tydings with Eoin Kennedy adding another three minutes later.
Ciaran O'Connor closed out the half with a point for Ballylongford leaving the half time score
Asdee 0-5 Ballylongford 0-4
Asdee started brightly once again and Darren Russell put them further ahead with a point inside the first minute Ciaran O'Connor brought Ballylongford to within a point once again with a close range free. Asdee were using their extra man to good effect employing a short kick out at every opportunity and they began to pull away opening up a four point lead by the end of the third quarter.Ballylongford needed to respond at this stage as the game was slipping away and it came with a good passing move along the stand side of the field culminating with a well taken goal by Padraig O'Neill in the 17th minute. From here to the final whistle it was point for point with Asdee always keeping a point in front,Ballylongford had a few wayward shots in the closing stages and if any of theses worked out,  it would have forced the game into extra time but it was Asdee who held out and now go on to meet Brosna in the quarter final.

The lack of Minor players on the Ballyduff side was evident.  First half Moyvane dominated throughout with a half time score of Moyvane 2.06  - Ballyduff 0.02

Second half and it was Moyvane who were home and dry, but the last 15 mins Ballyduff started to dominate but just couldn't make enough of their chances count.  Scoring 2.02 in the half but Moyvane young guns were full of running and adding 1.08 in the second half to bring the full time score to Moyvane 3.14 v Ballyduff 2.04

Moyvane 6.12 v   Asdee 1.06
By Mairead O Sullivan

This game was played on Saturday last, after what can only be described as a deluge of rain the night before, but O'Rahilly Park Ballylongford stood up to the test of the Gods.  It was Moyvane who dominated this game, Asdee got the better start when corner forward Darragh Keane split the posts in the first minute  but Asdee failed to score again until the 17th minute, Asdee did have chances but failed to make them count.  It was the running game that Moyvane brought to the table that unsettled the Asdee backs who were indisciplined and were punished for that,  Patrick Curtin slotted the ball to the back of the net from the penalty spot in the 4th minute, with Timmy Noonan and Aidan Keane both converting frees in the 6th and 15th minutes, again Aidan Keane split the posts before a response came from Asdee Mike Breen, but with two more points added from the boot of Moyvane Timmy Noonan,  Aidan Keane added a point to his tally and an another penalty slotted to the net by Patrick Curtin  in the 22nd minute who also added a point before the halftime whistle.  Asdee did hit a purple patch scoring 1.02 before the half,  with a goal and a point coming from Noel Long and a point from Darragh Keane. Half time score: Moyvane 3.06 v Asdee 1.04

The second half  was dominated by Moyvane with Donal Leahy at midfield giving the man of the match performance for hid fielding and work rate. Moyvane scored 3.06 in the second half to Asdee 2 points from Eoin Kennedy and Kieran Kelly.  But it was In the dying stages of the game that the Moyvane substitutes added to the tally to leave a gulf between the sides with David Moloney  chipping a goal over the keepers head, followed by a point from from D.J Keane, with a ball kicked soccer style by Patrick Curtin across the goal to the waiting veteran Cathal O Connor to be drove to the back of the net in the 29th minute and with a minute to go sub Martin Stack drove the ball between the posts,  into injury time and the ever hardworking Aidan Keane split the posts for the last kick of the game. Division 2 Back Game:
Knocknagoshel/Brosna 2.09 v Beale 3.10
This was a game with it all to play for, Knocknagoshel/Brosna go straight to the final on winning, but the seasiders could upset that if they beat their opponents to bring the division 2 league into a three way play off.  So on Friday night last in Ballybunion the two teams take to the pitch, it was Beale who dominated the first half with Johnny O Sullivan pointing in the first 40 seconds,  again it was Beale who were on the attack and in the 2nd minute Jonathan Carr split the posts to put his side two up.  Knocknagoshel/Brosna were finding it hard to settle, until Kieran Horan split the posts in the 3rd minute, but the ever running Beale side got their first goal on the 5th minute from the boot of  Darragh Buckley, Beales Buckley went on to finish the half with 3 more points to his tally, the second goal came from Killian Walsh with a point from Johnny OSullivan to finish Beale scoring, but Knocknagoshel/Brosna kept the scoreboard tipping over with a free converted by Kieran ODonnell in the 8th minute and Patrick Moriarty adding the next four points (1f) Half time Score Beale 2.06 v Knocknagoshel/Brosna 0.6

Second half and a moment of panic by the Knocknagoshel/Brosna number 1, saw Beale awarded a penalty in the first minute which was drove to the back of the net by Beale Darragh Buckley, the second half was a game which went from end to end with both set of forwards guilty of wayward shooting, the next score of the game came in the 14th minute from a free converted by Beale Darragh Buckley.  In quick reply  Knocknagoshel/Brosna converted a free in the 15th minute when Patrick Moriarty split the post. this seemed to have risen the  combination side for within the next 3 minutes capt Kieran O Donnell struck for goal twice to bring the margin between the sides down to 3pts. The next score didnt come until 20th minute form a free converted by Beales Darragh Buckley, again it was Beale who upped the game when Killian Walsh popped one over the bar. but in response Knocknagoshel/Brosna Killian Keane and Patrick Moriarty added a point a piece to bring two points between the sides, Knocknagoshel/Brosna tired tirelessly for a goal, but Beales number 1 Michael OSullivan pulled off some fantastic saves to deny the visitors.  It was the last kick of the game and it was  Beale Jonathan Carr who split the posts to bring 4pts between the sides Full Time Score Beale 3.10 v Knocknagoshel/Brosna 2.09 Referee Mike Hennessy Ballyduff.
Now we have a three way tie between St Senans, Beale and Knocknagoshel/Brosna.  More fun ahead.

Division 4 Final
Ballyduff 1.10 v Beale 0.09

This game was played on Tuesday evening last in a very blustery and wet Denis Dowling Park, thank you to Ballydonoghue for the use of their fine facilities, It was Beale playing with the aid of a strong breeze who were on the scoreboard first when Ian Blake split the posts in the first 30 seconds, Blake was to prove vital for the Beale side with his accurate free taking coming into play.  Ballyduff responded in the 3rd minute with a well taking point from Thomas O Rourke, who himself proved a important link man for the Ballyduff side. The play went up and down the pitch until the 5th minute when Ian Blake pointed an awarded free, It was all Beale from here on in playing with the breeze and taking full advantage. With Jamie Culloty, Darragh Buckley notching on a point a piece and Ian Blake added a further 3 points (2F) to bring his sides half time score 0.07.   Ballyduff on the other hand struggled with the elements and managed 3 pts from frees from Kenneth Boyle and John Carroll.  Half time score Beale 0.07 v Ballyduff 0.04

Second half and how many times have we been told this is a game of two halves, well this was, with those strong breezes coming into effect this time in favor of Ballyduff.  It took Ballyduff until the 4th minute to get on the scoreboard when Thomas O Rourke pointed an awarded free from the 45 using the stiff breeze to great effect, again O Rourke was on the attack and split the posts from another long range shoot, Ballyduff had their tails up and Beale just found it impossible to kick accurate ball.  Another free awarded to Ballyduff  in the 12th minute of the second half was taking by Kenneth Boyle to bring the sides level for the first time in the game.  Again Ballyduff were on the attack in the 13th minute a long ball kicked into the square, snatched out of the sky by Brain Carroll and drove home to the back of the net to bring Ballyduff a goal ahead for the first time in the match. With Beale yet to score it was looking grim for the Beale side, Beale had plenty of changes but having to carry the ball rather than kick due to the strong breeze, Beale had to carry the ball into contact and the ball was over turned time after time.  Ballyduff added two more points in the 14th and 15th minutes from the boots of Kenneth Boyle and John Paul Leahy.  Beale got their first point in the 17th minute from an awarded free converted by Ian Blake, this started the Beale come back, in the 21st minute sub Diarmuid Cummins split the posts, with three shots on goal from Tom Joy and Diarmuid Cummins coming of the upright, crossbar and going wide Beale could do no right.  The final score of the game came from Ballyduff captain Johnny Regan to bring his side to victory on a scoreline of Ballyduff 1.10 v Beale 0.09.  The cup was presented to captain Johnny Regan by North Kerry Board Vice Secretary Maurice Mannix.

Teams:

Clounmacon are the Div.3 North Kerry League Champions, where they overcame the challenge of Ballydonoghue last Wednesday evening in O'Rahilly Park Ballylongford. The winners were first off the mark when the impressive Paudie Quinn spilt the posts in the first minute.  Ballydonoghue replied with points from Padraig Lyons and Jim Cremin.  Paudie Quinn Clounmacon added two points from frees.  It was at this stage Ballydonoghue began to dominate with points from Jack Foley (2), David O Connor a point and two points by Padraig Lyons (2) Clounmacon dug deep and full forward Brian Murphy hit the crossbar but the same player was not to be out done when he pounced on the rebound and finished to the net to put Clounmacon right back in the game. A further exchange of points by Padraig Lyons who impressed by adding 3 points for Ballydonoghue and wing back Daniel Collins and Chris Lyons from a free left the half time score Clounmacon 1. 05 Ballydonogue 0. 07

The second half began with a point from Clounmacon full forward Brian Murphy and Ballydonoghue stepped up a gear by adding points from Jack Foley and Padraig Lyons. Ballydonoghue pressed further and a defence splitting move ended when Ballydonoghue's Eddie Sheehy was fouled and referee Seamus Mulvihill had no hesitation in awarding a penalty.  It was taken by Padraig Lyons Ballydonoghue and Clounmacon goalkeeper Shane O Sullivan made a brilliant save to turn the game in the winners favour.  Man of the match Brian Murphy added his second goal with a clinical finish to put the winners ahead and in a welter of excitement Clounmacon held out to win by a single point in an excellent game to leave the final score Clounmacon 2. 11 Ballydonoghue 1. 13 Clounmacon captain Fintan McEnery was presented with the cup by assistant secretary Maurice Mannix

Division 2 Semi Final
Knocknagoshel 0.10 v Asdee 2.06
Played in Brosnan Park , Moyvane on Saturday May 2nd  Asdee finally laid the Knocknagoshel bogey to qualify for the North Kerry League Division 2 Final with a hard earned victory and will now face Moyvane with a date of Saturday June 20th at Mountcoal provisionally fixed . Certainly if Asdee were to loose this tie they would only have themselves to blame as they squandered numerous opportunities of scores right throughout the encounter and really made life difficult for themselves to get over the line. On the other hand Knock also had their share of poor shooting and they too when they reflect back will wonder how they let this one slip. But credit both sets of players; maybe the the football may not always be the purist but for sheer commitment and endeavour they gave 100% and the rival supporters were in full voice right up to the last kick of the game. The game opened with end to end play and after just 2 minutes Eoin Kennedy from a free opened the games scoring and from here till the final whistle it was nail biting stuff. Once again Knock powered by the Walsh brothers who registered 8 of their 10 point total between them were always very much to the fore and in the first 15 minutes all got on the scoresheet. The wides were also totting up for both sides but by the 20th minute Eoin Kennedy and Mike Breen levelled up the tie at 3pts a piece. Up to this though Knock seemed to be getting a grip on the game with Shane O Connell  the dominant midfielder. Still Asdee kept plugging away and a fine point from wing back Michael Tydings  put Asdee ahead; 4pts to 3pts. The Walsh brothers James and Edmond swung over points as we approached the sound of the half time whistle  leaving it Knock 0-6 Asdee 0-4. The second half was just 1 minute old when Mike Breen split the uprights and 2 minutes later after Sean Keane set him up it was Eoin Kennedy who billowed the net from close range leaving it now Asdee 1-5 Knock 0-6. But Knock were having none of it and  it took a marvellous block from Asdee keeper Conor Coughlan to deny Knock a goal; excellent points from Edmond Walsh, (2), Shane O Connell and David O Donoghue had the Knock boys 2 points ahead after 14 minutes and in fairness looked to be in the driving seat at 0-10 to 1-5. As the play swung from end to end with plenty scoring chances squandered by both sides we had no further score until the 24th minute when Eoin Kennedy finished off a good move to send over and now just a point seperated the sides. It still looked like a Knock win as Asdee struggled to score but then in a dramatic end to what was a cracking contest Eoin Kennedy won a long delivery set up Matt O Hanlon whos shot was partially blocked and broke to the inrushing Noel Long who sent an unstoppable shot to the roof of the Knock net with a minute remaining which proved to be the winning score. The game was excellently refereed by Seamus Mulvihill.  Teams and scorers; Asdee, Conor Coughlan,Sean Keane, Martin Collins , Eoin O Carroll, Michael Tydings, 1pt, Noel Long, 1gl, Con Carmody, Darragh Keane, Kieran Kelly, Mike Breen, 2pts, Eoin Kennedy , 1-3, Darren Russell, John Doran, Eoin Tydings, Charles Dalton. By Mairead O Sullivan

Division 1 Semi Final

Listowel Emmets .012 v Beale 105

Listowel Emmets overcame the challenge of Beale in a lacklustre N.K League semi final last Saturday at Con Brosnan Park Moyvane. Beale got off to a bright start when ref. Eddie Barrett awarded a penalty which Ger Gorman dispatched to the net in the third minute. ListowelsEmmets response was swift with points from Conor Cox (f) and a point from play by Cormac Mulvihill. An interception by Barry oMahony in the 18th minute resulted in a fisted point for Beales first point.Listowel then began to dominate and added further points from Micheal Lynch, David Sheehy and another by Cormac Mulvihill all from play to put them ahead. Before the break there was a further exchange of points from Jamie Culloty for Beale and a free by Conor Cox for Listowel leaving half time score Beale 1.02 Listowel Emmets 0. 06. Beale attacked but were let down by poor finishing and the final scores came from Ricky Hanley for Listowel Emmets and a James McMahon point for Beale to leave the final score Listowel Emmets 0. 12 Beale 1. 05

Division 1 Semi Final

Desmonds 1.12 v Finuge 0.07

This game was played on Saturday last in Duagh with both teams missing starting personal, Referee Eddie Barrett overseen matters.  The game got off to a slow start with neither team playing with any urgency.  But it was Desmonds who rallied the better and scored 1.06in the first half,  at times Desmonds over played the ball carrying it into contact only for the ball to be turned over. Even though Finuge had plenty of possession in the first half, their scoring power just wasn't clicking and Finuge only managing 3pt (0.02f) in the first half.

Second half and the fitness of Desmonds never looked under threat, Finuge scored four points with only 1 point from play which says it all.  Desmonds on the other hand scored 0.6pts with three from frees. to bring their final tally to 1.12 to Finuges 0.07 pts.  Desmonds now go into a final with Emmets.

SCOR 2014/15

North Kerrys involvement in all Scor competitions came to halt on Sunday last in the Gleneagle Hotel Killarney where what definitely is the most popular competition of the three; the Scor na bPaisti County Finals where the North Kerry Football Board Sponsored by Mary and Liam Hanrahan of the “The All Star, Bar” Moyvane were represented in seven out of the nine catagories; Moyvane in Solo Singing, Ballad Group and Set Dancing, Knocknure in Quiz, Ballydonoghue in Sean Nos Dancing, St, Senans in Instrumental and Ballylongford in Leiriu.

CHAMPIONS  Without doubt this proved to be the most successful Scor Na bPaisti County Finals since its introduction for the North Kerry Football Board; being crowned County Champions in Instrumental Music by St. Senans, Leiriu by Ballylongford, who were represented by Lenamore National School, Lenamore have only ever in their history entered Scor in the last four years which has proved very successful wining three North Kerry titles, getting to the County on two occasions a second place and finally this year a first to be crowned champions and Sean Nos Dancing; Tadhg Barry, Ballydonoghue who created history not alone in North Kerry but in the County by claiming honours in this category which was only introduced for this event. Spare a thought for our remaining competitors; Moyvane in Ballad Group, Set Dancing and Solo Singing and Knockanure in the Question Time who all performed well.

The following are the County Champions in Scor Na bPaisti;

Instrumental Music

St. Senans Clodagh Murphy, Ruth Moore, Kalin Foley, Aideen Quinlan, Aoife Murphy.

LEIRIU

Ballylongford Kady Moran, Rhianna Cameron, Tara Lynch, Elish Broughan, Eoghan Cameron, Sorcha Cameron, Nick Green

SCOR NA NOG. In the end St. Senans in Solo Singing, Asdee in Recitation. Moyvane, Ballad Group, Ballydonoghue in Instrumental Music qualified for the County Finals .

SCOR SINSEAR. Eight Clubs took part and was again well attended with plenty talent on view. At the end of the night through to the County Finals went, Asdee in the Quiz and Recitation, St. Senans in Solo Singing, Beale in Instrumental Music and Ballad Group.

OVERALL TROPHY. This was kindly sponsored by Mary and Billy Enright of Estuary Print and Trophies, Ballylongford.

Division 2 Round 3 Back Games

Asdee 2.15v Ballylongford.0.05

Asdee qualified for the Semi Final of the North Kerry League Division 2 in style with a fourteen point victory over Ballylongford at o Rahilly Park, Ballylongford on Sunday last. Despite missing several of their regulars through injury Asdee put on their best display of the year with nine different players getting on the scoresheet and were fully deserving of their big win. This was the first meeting of the sides since the County Final of 2013 and it promised to be a to be a great derby match but it fell flat and never reached the standard expected when these two teams meet. Charlie Dalton opened the scoring in the 6th minute before Kieran Mulvihill equalised with a free for the home side in the 10th minute. After this the two sides traded scores with Eoin Kennedy scoring in the 12th minute followed by a brace from Charlie Dalton in the 16th and 17th minutes. Kieran Mulvihill responded for Bally with pointed frees in the 16th and 18th minutes. Suberb points from Eoin Tydings and Eoin Kennedy in the 23 and 28th minutes closed out the scoring for the half. Asdee led by 0-06 to 0-03 at the break but for all their dominance they probably felt they could have been ahead by more at the break. However, their was only one team in the contest in the 2nd half. Asdee knew they needed a win to qualify for the semi-finals and blew the hosts away with a great 2nd half performance. Points from Charlie Dalton, Mike Breen and Con Carmody in the 1st,2nd and,6th minutes pulled them further clear. Ballylongfords only two scores in the second half came from Kieran Mulvhill who was the home sides only scorer on the day in the 9th and 18th minutes. Asdee finished out scoring with points from Eoin Kennedy,Kieran Kelly, Denis Dalton, Eoin Kennedy, Padraig Ruddle and Matthew O'Hanlon in the 16th, 21st,23rd, 26th, 27th and 30th minutes. Denis Dalton made an expert finish for the games only goal in the 28th minute. Asdee were full value for their win on the day and can now look forward to a semi final appearance. The game marked the return to football after a lengthy absence by Matthew O Hanlon and will now be a vital cog in the panel for the year ahead. Asdee team and scorers were: Conor Coughlan, Sean Keane, Eoin O, Carroll, Brian Coughlan, Con Carmody 0-01, Darren Russell, Michael Tydings, Martin Collins, Padraig Ruddle 0-01, Kieran Kelly 0-01,Eoin Tydings 0-01, Darragh Keane, Michael Breen 0-01, Charlie Dalton(captain) 0-04 Eoin Kennedy 0-04. Division 1A Round 5
Ballydonoghue (0-10) Listowel (1-10).
Listowel had to pull out all the stops to overcome a very sharp Ballydonoghue side and it took a late goal for Listowel to finally see off their opponents.
Ballydonoghue were the sharper side in the first half and led by 2pts at the break and could have been further ahead but for a fine save by Listowel’s goal keeper Keith Hughes from a Jack Foley effort. While Jim Cremin was causing  a lot of problems and kicked a couple fine long range points .H.T. B/DON (0-7) Listowel (0-5).
Listowel had the better of the exchanges in the second half but were still finding it difficult to convert possession into scores. Midway through the half they looked to have breached the Ballydonoghue defence but Conor Cox’s shot for goal was brilliantly saved by Darren O’Connor.  Five minutes later Listowel did get their reward when Rickey Hanley was left unmarked on the edge of the square and he just had to tap home a Conor Cox fisted pass. Almost immediately Ballydonoghue had a great chance to pull a goal back but Jack Foley’s lob over the advancing Keith Hughes just skimped the wrong side of the crossbar. With time almost up Listowel had the final say to leave three points between the sides at the final whistle.

Finuge 2-11 Duagh 2-06
In Spring like conditions Finuge and Duagh lined out for this must win NK League game. A defeat for Finuge would almost certainly mean Div 2 football next season,  whereas a win would mean a play off  for a semi final. For Duagh a win would almost certainly mean a semi final spot. If Duagh lost it would mean Div 2 for them. So all was to play for.
Duagh looking fit got off to a goid start and were on top in all sectors of the field. Finuge looked very disjointed and out of shape and at half time Duagh lead by 5pts.
Finuge came out in the second half and took the game to Duagh putting them under pressure up front. It was nip and tuck scoring wise until finuge struck for a goal after a scramble in the goal mouth. The last 10 mins saw finuge take hold of the game and when they goaled again followed by a point from play they saw the game out to win on a scoreline of 2-11 to 2-05.

Division 2 Round 5
Ballylongford 1-7 Moyvane 2-11.
Ballylongford were well beaten by Moyvane in their third  game of the NKL played at O'Rahilly park on Sunday last,Moyvane were on top throughout with Con Mulvihill capitalising on a mistake in the Bally goalmouth to goal within five minutes.Kieran Mulvihill opened Ballylongford account with a well struck penalty in the 13th minute to leave it 1-5 to 1-2 in favour of Moyvane at half time.
Moyvane continued their good form and were awarded a penalty in the 4th minute after a foul on Cathal O'Connor but Paudie Moroney made a brilliant  in the Ballylongford goals.Moyvane got the goal ten minutes later with Cathal O'Connor providing the finish.Ballylongford kept plugging away with a brace from Jeremiah Tydings and one each from Cathal O'Carroll and Niall Heaphy however Moyvane were now moving well and opened up a sizeable lead.Michael McEllistrim who moved from fullback kicked the final score of the match for Ballylongford.

Knocknagoshel 1.11v Asdee 1.03
This Division 2 clash played at Walsh Park, Knocknagoshel on Sunday last was a game the home team dominated and were on top in the majority of the outfield positions and really and truly Asdee can have no excuses as they hit a very poor day at the office; but credit Knock they were full value for their 11pt victory and only for some dreadful shooting  they could be out of sight even at the interval. Certainly this was a superb team performance by the winners who played some very intelligent football but the contribution of the Walsh brothers; James, Edmond and Michael was immence. Whatever chance of Asdee getting more into the game was dealt a huge blow when Michael Tydings received a second yellow after 16mts and then early in the second half midfielder John Doran ad to retire with a shoulder injury. So despite playing poorly and with 14 men it was always going to be an uphill battle. Immediately from the throw-in Knock set about their business kicking some tremendous points; but especially a sideline kick from 40 meters out from the boot of Edmond Walsh was the score of the game. Further points from the same player, James Walsh, Shane O Connell and Kieran Long saw them lead 0-6 without reply by the 25th minute before the visitors opened their account with points from Mike Breen leaving the half time score; Knock 0-6 Asdee 0-2.Inside the opening 3mts on resumption Mike Breen who got all his sides total got on the end of a defensive mix-up to cooley slide the ball into the empty net. Now despite all Knock possession it was down to a one point game but when a close in free was awarded to Asdee the ball sailed wide of the mark and from here to the end despite some Asdee pressure the result was never in doubt; an own goal plus Niall Barrett, Dan Roche, Noel Brosnan , Michael Walsh and  Kieran Long getting on the scoresheet and Asdees only reply coming from Mike Breen in the 25th minute. Without doubt if Asdee hope to reach the semi final stage of the competition they will have to improve 100% as they play Ballylongford on this Sunday in a winners take all for a semi final spot. As stated the Walsh brothers for Knock were stars but so too were Shane O Connell, Kieran Long, Niall Barrett, Dan Roche and Michael Murphy . For Asdee Eoin O Carroll, Noel Long, Con Carmody, Darragh Keane, Darren Russell, and Mike Breen tried hard. Teams and scorers; Knock Kieran Downey, John Brosnan, Michael Walsh, Conor Sheehan, Michael Shine, James Walsh, 2pts,(f), Kieran Long, 1-1, Edmond Walsh, 3pts, Shane O Connell, 1pt, David O Donoghue, Dan Roche, 1pt, Michael Murphy , Niall Barrett, 2pts, Joe Regan, David Cahill. Subs, Noel Brosnan , 1pt for Conor Sheehan, Stephen O Connell for Joe regan, Danny Walsh for David Cahill. Asdee; Conor Coughlan, Sean Keane, Martin Collins, Eoin O Carroll, Con Carmody, Noel Long, Michael Tydings, John Doran, Darragh Keane, Mike Breen, 1-3, Darren Russell, Kieran Kelly, Charles Dalton, Eoin Tydings, Dinny Dalton. Back Game Division 1A Round 2

Ballydonogue 1.4 v Brosna 0.07

Report by Ballydonoghue PRO Tim O Connor

In the end, both sides were happy to come away with a share of the spoils on a day when the gale force winds restricted both teams to a single point when playing against it. Ballydonoghhue with the aid of the wind in the first half should have been out of sight at half time. But three glorious goal chances went a begging for sake of someone to put the finishing touch to a couple of good moves.  It the end it took wing back Diarmuid Behan to raise the green flag when he soloed in along the end line before finding the bottom corner of the Brosna net after 20mins. Five minutes later Brosna got their only score of the half with a Mike Finnigan point. HT B/D (1-3) Brosna (0-1).

Jim Cremin stretched Ballydonoghue’s lead early in the second half with what was to be their last score. From there on Brosna laid siege to the Ballydonoghue goals with Mike Finnigan and Adam Barry getting ample supply of ball, they caused the Ballydonoghue backs some major headaches. But Ballydonoghue managed to keep their goals intact and they can thank their wing back Stephen Lonergan for some very timely interventions. Brosna had chipped away at Ballydonoghue’s lead and there was only a point between them after 27 mins. Two minutes later the sides were level as Brosna finally closed the gap.

Divison 2 Round 4

Moyvane 4.05 v Knocknagoshel  0.12

Report by Moyvane PRO Aine Cronin

Moyvane had their first win of the season overcoming Knocknagoshel at home on a final score of Moyvane 4.5, Knocknagoshel 0.12.

The home side had the perfect start as within the first 5 minutes of the game they had found the back of the Knocknagoshel net twice, both goals from full forward Paddy Curtin. A point again from Curtin was quickly answered by a pointed free from the visitors busy midfielder Edmond Walsh who would prove to be dangerous on the break throughout the game.  Moyvane were working the ball very efficiently and creating lots of chances. An Aidan Keane free kept the advantage with Moyvane before 2 points from Edmond Walsh saw the score 2.2 to 0.3 on the 15 minute mark.  Curtin was causing problems for the visiting fullback line and slipped over a point that was followed by another Aidan Keane free. Walsh again pointed for Knocknagoshel in the last minute of the half but from the kick out Moyvane worked the ball quickly down field and Curtin laid on a precise pass to Aidan Keane who slotted home a goal for the last kick of the half, leaving the half time score Moyvane 3.4, Knocknagoshel 0.4.

Moyvane began the second half as they had left the first as within two minutes of the whistle they once more rattled the visitors net.  Paddy Curtin slipped a pass to Ian McCarthy who fired the ball passed goalie Danny Walsh.  Knocknagoshel did not give up hope however, and had 4 unanswered points, 2 each from Edmund Walsh and Joe Regan before Con Mulvihill pointed for Moyvane in the 50th minute. The visitors again went on the attack and notched up 4 more points before the game ended, again 2 from the impressive Edmund Walsh and 2 from James Walsh.  Moyvane goalie Brendan Galvin had to look sharp towards the end with a great save in the final minutes.  The game ended on a final score of Moyvane 4.5, Knocknagoshel 0.12.
