Kieran Corridan Intermediate Cup Replay

Report by Mairead O Sullivan
Beale B 1.09 v Ballydonoghue B 0.09
This was a highly anticipated  game between two sides that couldn't be separated in their first meeting even after extra time.  But today in Jack Walsh Park Asdee it was a game of two halves with the sea siders dominating the first half  and the Ballydonoghue men dominating the second half but ran out of time.

It was Beale from the throw in that brought intensity and urgency to the pitch, it took until the fourth minute for the opening score from midfielder Shane Joy Beale. The play went from end to end with the forwards on both sides guilty of waste possession, it took wingback Diarmuid Behan to open Ballydonoghue's scoring splitting the posts and trying to up the urgency from his team mates.  But it was Beale who responded with a point from Bernard O Callaghan a minute later, Beale were running at Ballydonoghue with speed and in the seventeen minute corner forward Eric Daly split the posts, James McMahon converted a free in the twentieth minute, with centre forward Callum McSweeney added another point to bring four points between the sides, Ballydonoghue were trying hard but they just couldnt get a hold on the intensity that Beale brought from the throw in. Beale went on to add two more points from Joe Finch, Bernard O Callaghan and a goal from veteran James McMahon before the half time whistle with Ballydonoghue into injury time added a point from corner back Billy Foley.  Half time score Beale 1.07 v Ballydonoghue 0.02

As I said at the start of this report nothing could separate these two teams in the first final not even extra time, so the large crowd in attendance waited for the kick from this Ballydonoghue team and they did not disappoint.  Ballydonoghue totally took control of the second half, from the second minute half time sub Gearoid Kissane split the posts, followed by a converted free from wing forward Jim Cremin, Ballydonoghues tails were up and wing back Diarmuid Behan added another in the sixth minute to bring his personal tally to 2 points, Ballydonoghue owned the ball and mid fielder Kevin O Donnell raised the white flag to bring four points between the teams.  Beale just couldn't get their hands on the ball and when they did it was overturned for a counter attack. With mid fielder Jack Sheehy cutting Beale lead to just the goal, the Ballydonoghue supporters started to believe their was a chance that their team could win this game.  It was Barry O Neill who opened Beale second half scoring with a point in the twenty first minute to put four between the sides once again, but corner forward Mikey Nolan cut it out straight away at the other end to leave that elusive goal between them once again.  The play went from end to end with a missed goal chance for Ballydonoghue.  to the gasp from the stand.  Barry O Neill converted a free in the thirty minute for Beale  which again Ballydonoghue's Mikey Nolan replied with a converted free.  With the time running out the final whistle sounded and the Kieran Corridan Intermediate Cup was presented to Beale's Captain Tommy O Neill by Chairperson Mairead O Sullivan.  Full time score Beale B 1.09 v Ballydonoghue B 0.09
