BERNARD O CALLAGHAN MEMORIAL CHAMPIONSHIP 2020, dates have been confirmed by the C. C. C.   of the North Kerry Football Board for the 2020 McMann’s Bar and Restaurant Sponsored Bernard O Callaghan Memorial North Kerry Senior Football Championship, with the burning question on everyone’s lips even at this early stage; who will lift the much sought after Eamon O Donoghue Memorial Cup? It will get underway on this Saturday September 5th under lights at Frank Sheehy Park, Listowel where the locals take on Ballydonoghue in what is expected to be a cracking encounter and is probably the game of the round. As already stated, the burning question is who will be the winners at the end of the competition and right now, before a ball has been kicked one would imagine that last year champions St. Senans going for 3-in-a-row of titles and Ballydonoghue would be the joint bookies favorites. However; Listowel Emmets, Finuge, Desmonds, Brosna and Beale will have a big say in where the destination of the Eamon O Donoghue Cup will reside. First up will be the clash of the heavy weights and great rivals Emmets at home v Ballydonoghue and either could very well go all the way with a starting time of 7pm on Saturday September 5th. Then on Sunday September 6th will see Finuge home to Castleisland Desmonds at2pm, both clubs have had All Ireland success; this one should go down to the wire. It’s been a while since North Kerry Senior Championship success visited either so the looser here will have to wait a little while longer Also this this Sunday September 6th at 4pm Con Brosnan Park, Moyvane will host the clash of the locals and an ever improving Knocknagoshel who have been impressing on recent outings, but beware of the championship specialists Moyvane who have been known to succeed when unexpected. Sunday 12th September with time to be confirmed will see last year’s champions St. Senans going for a 3- a- row take on a youthful and skillful Beale at Stack Park, Ballybunion, (last team to achieve 3 in a row) and who could very well be the surprise packets of this competition. Finally, Sunday September 13 will see the 2 remaining first round games going ahead; at 2pm at Shannon Park, Tarbert; Asdee will try to get one over on the Shannonsiders and at O Rahilly Park, Ballylongford, Ballylongford will cross swords with Duagh starting at 4pm. Both Brosna and Ballyduff received byes to the 2nd round and they will provide tough opposition and could very well be involved at the business end if the competition. North Kerry Football Championship can be so unpredictable and on plenty occasions some of the so-called top teams at certain times can bite the dust. Can this be the year that last year’s finalists Brosna or Knocknagoshel claim that elusive North Kerry Senior Championship. Will St. Senans make it 3 in a row? Will restrictions be lifted for the final to allow some kind of an attendance to see Board Chairman, Johnny Stack present the Eamon O Donoghue Memorial Cup to the winning captain? Strange times but we must obey the guidelines.
