COUNTY SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP, Shannon Rangers 0-9 Kenmare Shamrocks 0-13, since 1940 when the Shannon Rangers club were formed Asdee G A A have without fail always been represented at all levels and this year was no exception as we had Darragh Keane who came on as a substitute to tie up the game with under 7 minutes left for play; along with Eoin Tydings and Martin Collins on the senior panel.

The Shannonsiders made the long trip to Kenmare on Sunday last to take on the locals in the opening round of the Garvey's Super Value County Senior Football Championship and despite going under by a 4 point margin; had a penalty tipped over and along with squander opportunities when presented themselves as they had the home side; and pre-match favorites; giving them plenty anxious moments before the sound of the final whistle.

Playing with a stiffish breeze the opening exchanges were close and by the 20th minute it was all square at 2pts each with Jack Kennelly and Ciaran O Connor for the visitors and Stephen O Brien and Kevin O Sullivan for the home side. At this stage Kenmare came more into the game with Seanie O Shea who had been well marshaled up to now by Shane Enright but he kicked 3 points along with Tom Murnane and Mark Crowley with Jack Kennelly’s penalty tapped over by an excellent net minder in Kieran Fitzgibbon who came to their rescue as the game progressed. Half time Kenmare Shamrocks 0-7 Shannon Rangers 0-3. Seanie O Shea failed to come out for the second half due to injury and it was now Rangers who hit 2 points in succession through Jack Kennelly, (2) and Jack O Sullivan leaving the margin down to 3 points. Stephen O Brien was now coming more into the game but Rangers held firm as Mark Buckley, Cormac Linnane and Darragh Keane tied up the game at 0-9 all with time tic king away. However it was the home side hit late scores with Stephen O Brien, (2) and Paul O Connor securing a hard earned win and will now go forward; Shannon Rangers on the other hand are finished for the year but Players, Management and Committee can hold their heads up high having put in a massive effort despite having to line out without a few regulars.
