ASDEE G A A

As we look back and reflect on a very busy and successful season which came to a conclusion recently with the final match of the year going down to our neighbours; Beale in the Credit Union County football League Division 5 promotion semi final play-off.  It was  disappointing to say the least as Asdee went into this game in a fairly confident mood and hopefully extend their season a little further but in fairness they never got to grips with a better balanced Seaside outfit and on behalf of the club we would like to wish Beale  every success when they play Kilgarvan for promotion to Division 4 on a date and venue to be confirmed by the County Board.  However the winning of the McCarthys Insurance Brokers North Kerry football League Division 2 over Knocknagoshel was without doubt the highlight of the year and  which was celebrated in style; the victorious panel of players will be presented with their medals at a function organised by the St Marys, Asdee club during the festive season with the Arms Hotel, Listowel on Friday January 3rd as the venue. It was wonderful to see a few new faces emerge from the Underage ranks and certainly Shay Doran and Stephen Lynch made a huge impact.  Jack Collins, Ryan Henry, Sean McElligott and  Shane Collins also made a return to the fold. The club also took part in the Kerry County Petroleum Championship and North Kerry Senior Football League and Championship. Great credit is due to our dedicated panel of players and to the Management team of John Kennedy, Dan Dalton, Sean Doran and Mike Enright who gave us great enjoyment throughout the year and they can all now take a well deserved break and start fresh for the new year ahead. We had representations on all underage competitions up to Under 21 level both at North Kerry and County level as Asdee/Bally and also with Shannon Rangers along with reaching the North Kerry Cumann Na Bun Scoil final. It was a proud moment for  both her family and the local club to witness Asdee N.S. student Roisin Fogarty who had the honour of been chosen to walk out on the pitch with the Sam Maguire Cup in Croke Park prior to the All Ireland Senior  football final replay.  Moving indoors the Club were represented in all 3 Scor competitions; Scor Sinsear, Scor Na Nog and Scor Na bPaisti and continued with our Fundraisers; the “Golden Goal”  and “Stars in their Eyes” , Christmas Draw and the  National Draw. A Presentation of training tops to the National School students by John Dillane of Asdee International Ireland/China and also Brandon Products, Kilcolman, Asdee and especially Claire and Jerry O Mahony for kitting out our senior footballers. Eddie Anthony Walsh elected to the position of Development Officer of the North Kerry Football Board; John Joe O Carroll who will be vacating the position of County Delegate to Croke Park after his 5 year term at the County convention in December but will be taking up another top position at a later date after serving the County Board  since 2003 as; Assistant Treasurer, Treasurer along with his present position; and Jack Hennessy to the position of P R O of Coiste Scor Chiarrai. Patsy Coughlan remained as a member of the North Kerry Football Board  C.C.C.  Committee. Not forgetting Gerdie O Carroll who is the club Referee dating back to the late 90s. The Developement of Jack Walsh Park had been a major topic within the club for some time as the surface of the pitch had been a source of worry with games only been played there maybe from early  May to September and this would be down to weather conditions we have been experiencing. So earlier this year a committee under the stewardship of Club Chairman, Sean Doran it was decided that a major job would have to be done with the playing surface of the pitch. So after many discussions and meetings and what have you work got underway in early June being overseen by agronomist James Healy, who has previously worked with his chosen contractors to create top class playing surfaces. So the countdown begins to get playing in Jack Walsh Park once again.. It is great to see all our fundraising efforts along with sponsorship coming to fruition and this is mainly due to all once again our neighbouring clubs but especially to you our generous Parishioners who have never left the club down when it came to fundraising. we would like to sincerely thank Asdee Rovers Soccer Club for the use of their pitch for training since our field has been under development and also Finuge, Ballylongford, Beale, Ballydonoghue, Ballybunion and Moyvane GAA clubs for the use of their pitch at times over the year. It is very much appreciated.  Roll on the re-opening of Jack  Walsh Park.
