ASDEE G A A

COUNTY LEAGUE. Asdee 0-10   Cordal 3-18. Having gone throughthe League unbeaten Cordal were crowned Credit Union County League Division 5champions at Stack Park, Ballybunion  onSunday last where they defeated the home side in a one sided contest that wasplayed at 13 a-side. From goalkeeper Sean O Ciarbhain to number 13 KieranGriffin this was a total team performance with 13 players along withsubstitutes getting on the scoreboard but the name of  Philip O Connor deserves special mention;scorer of 2-4 all in the opening half and was without doubt the man of thematch giving the Asdee rearguard plenty headaches. Inside the opening minuteboth teams exchanged points with Philip O Connor and Eoin Kennedy on target. However this was as good as it got for the home side with Cordal completelydominating proceedings for the remainder of the game. Goals from Philip OConnor,(3mts) and T J O Connor, 6mts later saw the visitors lead 2-5 to 3ptsafter the first quarter as 2 pointed frees from Eoin Tydings who was easilyAsdees best performer and Mike Breen was Asdees only reply. James Kelly theAsdee keeper kept out a goal bound shot with a tremendous save before Philip OConnor got his second goal in the 20th minute followed by some welltaken points and at the break it was Cordal 3-9 Asdee0-5. The same trendcontinued during the second half as Cordal were to use up their bench but infairness even though always playing second fiddle Asdee battled away but it wasthe visitors who were piling on the scores. Sean Walsh who came on as asubstitute kicked 3 very good points as Kieran O Donoghue, Kieran Enright andPhilip Griffin added further minors. Eoin Tydings got 3 back for Asdee but itwas never going to make any difference to the final scoreline. Asdee 0-10  Cordal 3-18. After the game County BoardDevelopement Officer, Eamon Whelan was on hand to present the Cordal captain,Philip O Connor with the winning shield amid great jubilation amongst the hugeband of supporters that travelled to cheer on the champions of 2017.  NORTH KERRYLEAGUE PLAY-OFF.  Asdee 1-9  Ballyduff  1-19. Played in perfect underfoot conditions at Dowling Park, Coolard onWednesday evening last Ballyduff inspired by the brilliance of the Boylebrothers, Mikey and Padraig who scored a staggering tally of 13 points betweenthem as their side defeated our senior footballers in a play-off to decide asto who would go forward to a McCarthys Insurance Brokers Senior North KerryLeague Division 2 semi final. I suppose the highlight of the evening was theaccuracy from both frees and play from huge distances from Mikie Boyle.Certainly the scoreline may suggest that Ballyduff who entered the game as firmfavourites had it all their own way but this could not be further from thetruth as Asdee got stuck in from the word go and only for some poor shooting inthe scoring department could be much closer at the final whistle. Now on sayingall that there was no question or doubt but that the Duffers were full valuefor their victory where the level of fitness came into view for the lastquarter where they added those match winning scores and to mention of 2outstanding saves by the Asdee keeper Conor Coughlan who deprived both MikeyBoyle and Jack O Sullivan of what looked like certain goals at the closingstages. It was nip and tuck for the bigger part of the opening half as both EoinTydings and Mikey Boyle exchanged points from close in frees inside the firstminute. By the end of the first quarter Ballyduff led by a 3pt margin but abreathtaking movement that say the ball travel through six players was finishedto the net in fine style by Eoin Kennedy to tie up the game at Asdee 1-4  Ballyduff 0-7. The Duffers went ahead comingup to the break but Asdee will rue great scoring opportunities as Ballyduff ledby a single point at the interval. On resumption scoring was again the problemfor Asdee and it wasn’t until the 14 minute that Eoin Tydings registered ouropening score of the half but by that time Ballyduff had gone 5 points ahead.Eoin Tydings and Michael Tydings reduced the scoreline to 3 points only for ouropponents to pull away during the final quarter with massive scores both fromplay and frees. That goal that threatened throughout this half came with twominutes remaining and was finished by Jack Goulding and that was that. OverallAsdee can be well pleased with their performance with each player giving theirbest until they eventually ran out of steam. Team and scorers; Conor Coughlan,Eoin O Carroll, Martin Collins, Con Carmody, Keith McNamara, Sean Keane, JackKeane, Kieran Kelly, John Doran, Mike Breen, 2pts, Eoin Kennedy, 1gl, BrianCoughlan, Michael Tydings, 2pts, Eoin Tydings,5pts, Darragh Keane.

UNDER 14

North Kerry League U14 Division 2 Final Finuge 4 - 10 Asdee /  Ballylongford 0 - 07 The North Kerry League came to a close on Monday evening  last in Clounmacon with Finuge claiming the silverware on offer. Having  comfortably won 3 previous encounters this season, Finuge went into the game  as red hot favourites and delivered on the occasion. Finuge eventually pulled  away from Asdee/Bally in the second half, but were made work hard for victory  as there was only 4 points between the sides at half time. Following a seven  week break from the exciting semi-final victory over Beale, it was  Asdee/Bally who were quickest out of the blocks opening up a 3 point lead  with scores coming from Paddy O Neill, Brendan Keane and Oisín Healy. Finuge  did not panic and slowly picked off 3 points off their own to tie the affair  after 15 minutes. Finuge added 2 more points before the first hammer blow of  the game was struck when they hit the back of the net for the opening goal.  Brendan Keane and Christopher O Donoghue added points before Asdee/Bally were  dealt a severe setback with Adam Finucane going off injured just before half  time. Adam’s strength and attacking threat from centre half back would be  sorely missed for the remainder of the game. Half time: Finuge 1 – 06 Asdee /  Bally 0 - 05 Finuge got the start which Asdee/Bally needed by scoring a goal  in the opening minute of the second half. This was followed by a couple of  points to open up a significant gap between the sides. Brendan Keane added 2  points before Finuge added a third goal midway through the half. Whilst the  possession stakes were even up to the final whistle, the need for goals was  too strong for Asdee/Bally to achieve. Finuge were resolute in defence and  snuffed out the goal opportunities which were thrown at them. Finuge finished  the strongest and added another goal on the stroke of full time to deservedly  claim victory. Whilst there was obvious disappointment on the night, it’s a  campaign which the players can be very proud of having claimed 3 narrow  victories in the league phase against Tarbert, Ballydonoghue and Beale.  Finuge now advance to the division 1 championship where they will be a stiff  opposition for whoever they meet. Tom O Sullivan, Clounmacon handled the game  excellently and allowed for a sporting game to develop. Full time: Finuge 4 –  10 Asdee / Bally 0 – 07 The division 2 championship gets under way later in  the week with a semi-final against Ballydonoghue in Moyvane. The other  semi-final sees Beale take on Tarbert. This should be an evenly matched  championship where all 4 teams will have claims for success. Each team have  met twice already this season with little more than a score between the sides  on any occasion with results alternating between teams. Referee: Tom O  Sullivan Team: Niall O’Connor Michael Hannon Michael Tracey Oran O’Neill Adam  Finucane Patrick Mulvihill Paddy O’Neill (0 - 1) Christopher O’Donoghue (0 -  1) Ethan McDonald Brendan Keane (0 - 4) Oisín Healy (0 - 1) Liam Connolly  Bobby McCarron Cillian Kennelly Jack Hannon Sean O’Connor Paraic Fogarty
