St Senans GAA Notes   23/03/2015

Scor Na Bpaisti. Well done to Clodagh Murphy, Ruth Moore, Kalin Foley,Aoife Murphy and Aideen Quinlan who represented the Club in the County semi-Finals on the 22nd of march in Killarney.

Cumann na Mbunnscoil  Victory. Congratulations to the Dromclough team who were victorious in the mini 7s competition last Friday. The team was Emma Faley, Tia Griffin, Aisling Kelly, Anne Moriarty, Orla Dillon ,Aideen Cronin, Ciara O Sullivan,Aideen Quinlan, Sinead Behan, Ciara Walsh. The coaches were Kevin Enright and John Quilter

Upcoming matches: The St. Senans B team  are playing Castleisland Desmonds in their first game on the 31st of March. The other teams in the division are Ballyduff B, Listowel C,  Beale and Ballylongford B. The C team are playing on the 2nd of April at home to Duagh and will also be playing Knockanure and Brosna. B games on Tuesdays and C on Thursdays.

The senior team are fixed to play Finuge in the play off  of the North Kerry league on the 4th of april in Coolard at 6.30. They are away to Dromid on the 29th of March in the County League. The minors next game is an important one against Ardfert.

County Hurling Teams: Best of luck to all Senans players who are currently involved in Various Hurling Teams, Including Colin Browne, Shane Nolan, Sean Weir, and Adrian o Mahoney. Colin and Adrian played very well against Offaly at the weekend.

Tough Luck to David Foran and Sean T Dillon who were involved with the Kerry U 21 team that lost to Cork last week.

County League: St. Senans 0-13    Scartaglin 1-9

This Game was between St Senans who were Promoted from division 5 last year and Scartaglin who were relegated from Division 3, Scartaglin having ambitions to return to Division 3 and Senans hoping to consolidate their position in the Division. This match was played in excellent conditions in Mountcoal. Both sides were missing some regulars and Scartaglin had won the last 3 matches between the sides. . Scartaglin played with the wind in the first half.

Scartaglin opened brightly and after 2 minutes Padraig Reidy was wide from a free 40 yards  Out. In the 6th minute St. Senans opened the scoring after David Behan played a great cross field Ball to Jason Browne who passed to Sean O Connell and Sean kicked over from 35 yards. From the Resultant Kickout Jason Browne fielded and Passed to his Midfield Partner Damien Somers who kicked narrowly Wide. In the 9th minute Jason Browne made a great Interception in the Half Line and passed swiftly to David Behan who Passed onto Darragh Kennelly who scored a marvelous point  from the corner 25 yards out. Leaving the score Senans 0-2, scartaglin 0-0.  Paudie Quill won a free 30 yards out and kicked it over the bar himself. St Senans were now 3 points up but  Scartaglin were intent on a strong Response

Scartaglin opened their scoring after 11 minutes with a 14 yard free. Mike Horan who was putting his Mark on the Game scored from play after 13 mins. Scartaglin were pushing hard now, Mike Horan won a ball 40 yards out and soloed into the 14 yard line before kicking over the Bar in the 15th Minute bringing the teams level. Scartaglin had a player booked after 12 minutes after an unlucky tackle, but were definitely in the ascendancy. Senans made a return to attack in the 18th minute and Sean O Connell kicked it wide.

In the 21st Minute Darragh Kennelly won a hard free 45 yards out in front of the goals, Paudie Quill kicked the resulatant free over the Bar to put Senans back in Lead. The Senans Midfield were now very Dominant. In the 23rd minute David Behan gave another Great Crossfield Ball to his brother Mark who kicked wide from 40 yards. Pa Murphy had to leave the free due to Injury in the 27th Minute  and was replaced by Sean Tagney. This did not upset the Scartaglin Rhytm too much and in the 28th minute a  shot for a point by Mike Horan landed in the Square and was punched to the Net by Brian Hanrahan. And this put Scartaglin into a 0-4 to 1-3 Lead. This was quickly followed  a marvelous  point by Pa Rahilly after soloing  40 yards into  the 21 yard line to put Scartaglin into a 3 point lead.

Senans were under pressure in defence now and with the prospect of playing against the wind in the second half, things were looking ominous for them. The younger players from Senans took up the Gauntlet  and David Behan ran 30 yards avoiding 4 tacklers to win a free 14 yards out which  Paudie  Quill converted in the 30th minute.. In the next play Paudie Quill won a  great ball on the edge of theSquare and thanks to some great defending by 3 scartaglin defenders was forced out to the 21st where he managed to  pass to David Behan who scored an excellent point under pressure. Darragh Kennelly kicked a wide for Senans from the Corner in the 32nd Minute to bring the match to halftime with Scartaglin Leading 1-4 to 0-6.  Best for Scart in the first half was Mike Horan, and Mark Behan and Browne did very well for Senans. At this stage Scartaglin looked like favourites.with the prospect of playing with the wind in the second half.

Jason Browne won the throw in for the second half, and played the ball to David Behan who won a free which Paudie Quill kicked over the Bar. This  was followed by another point by Paudie in the second Minute after soloing into the 14 yard line. Scartaglin had an opportunity to draw level in the 4th minute  from a free 40 yards out but the effort went Wide. In the 5th Minute Mike |Coakley won a free for Scartaglin which was kicked Narrowly Wide. Senans attacked in the 6th Minute when Joe O Carrol won a ball in  crowd of players and passed it to David Behan  who took two soloes before kicking into the goalies hands. Again in the 7th Minute Joe Carroll won a hard Ball which resulted in a free which Paudie Quill kicked over the Bar from 20 yards out. To leave Senans leading 1-4 to 0-9. In the 9th Minute Sean O Connell was fouled on the 21, 10 yards from the Sideline and Kicked the Resultant Free over the Bar in Style reminiscent of Maurice Fitzgerald. Mike Horan kicked a free 30 yards out from Goals 20 yards from the Centre  straight over the Bar to bring the lead back to 2. Jason Browne soloed through and was  fouled  20 yards out in the 12th Minute to Bring the Lead back to three points. Scartaglin  Scored immediately from the Next kickout when their midfielder Mike Coakley won the Kickout and Passed to Padraig Reidy who Kicked over the Bar from 30 yards to bring the  gap back to 2. Coakley won a free in the 15th Minute and Kicked it narrowly Wide Himself. Scartaglins Midfield was dominant for the first 15 minutes of the second half. St Senans introduced Colin Browne for Joe Carroll in the17 th minute and it paid immediate dividends when Colin won a Ball in his own half and gave an excellent 40 yard pass to David Behan who returned the Ball to Colin who finished straight between the posts from 45 yards out.

In the 18th Minute Pa Rahilly kicked wide in front of the goals under pressure, this was followed by Padraig Reidy being fouled out by the sideline in the 19th Minute and  Horan kicked another excellent point from 30 yards from the resultant free to return the gap to 2 points. Sean O Connor picked up an injury after being involved in a full blooded tackle with Colin Browne and play was held up for a minute. Sean O Connell soloed through in the 23rd minute and kicked a bad wide. In the 24th minute Seant T Dillon had a rampaging solo up the field and passed  to David Behan who kicked over the bar for a marvelous score from 40 yards to bring the score to St. Senans 0-13 Scartaglin 1-7. Tempers were getting frayed at this stage as the match was up for grabs and this led to a schomozel near the Scartaglin Dugout, fortunately no injuries or fatalities accrued. In the 26th Minute Scartaglin won a free in the middle of the field and the ball was played to an unmarked Mike Horan who kicked the ball over the bar from 40 yards to bring the deficit back to 3 points. Coakley kicked a wide  from a free in the 27th Minute. In the 29th Minute Mike Horan Soloed through the Centre and Kicked over the Bar to bring the gap to 1pt. The match was now in the melting pot and Senans can be very grateful to Adrian o Mahoney who won a very brave free during scartaglins second last attack.   3Scartaglin put the Senans Goalkeeper under great  pressure in the 31st Minute resulting in a 45. Damien Somers fielded the resultant free in Daragh O se like Style to bring the great contestant to an end with St. Senans leading by 1 point.

Mike Horan was Man of the match and  Senans Resilience brought them home in the End.

Club Membership. Closing date is March 29th to allow for registration with Croke Park before March 31st. All players Must have must have membership paid before they begin training as otherwise they are not covered  by player Injury Scheme, which is important if one gets a serioius injury. Membership is Adult €20. 1st Child €20 ( child is anyone less than 18 years of age on 1/1/2015.) 2 or more children €30. Family membership €50 ( that's 2 adults and unlimited children). Only Paid up members will be considered for All-Ireland Tickets.
