Finuge GAA Notes   10/12/2013

SENIOR FOOTBALL
The team's interest in this year's North Kerry Championship ended at the semi-final stage in Listowel last Sunday. This was a game that for long periods Finuge looked like winning but they were thwarted in the final crucial minutes. Desmond's enjoyed more possession but for most of the game they squandered many chances including close in frees. On the other hand Finuge availed of their limited scoring opportunities with Ricky Heffernan being particularly clinical and Enda Galvin very accurate from frees. At half time Finuge led on a score of 0-5 to 0-4. A goal by Ricky Heffernan in the 3rd minute of the second half following a long delivery from John McCarthy put Finuge in the driving seat with a 4 point lead. Desmond's who were now playing very direct football reduced the margin to 1 point with approximately ten minutes to go and had an extra man following the red carding of a Finuge player. However good team points by Maurice Corridan and Conor Fitzmaurice in the 53rd and 56th minutes, giving a lead of three points seemed to have made the game safe. Desmond's had other ideas and in the dying minutes a point by Maurice O'Connell and a goal by Pat Fitzgerald who had been very influential all through resulted in a Desmond's victory 1-12 to 1-11. This brings a momentous year for the team to a close, the highlights of which were the Intermediate Munster Championship victory and promotion to Division 1 of the County League. There will now, for most of the players, be a well deserved break from football and hurling until next spring,   Team: Cillian Fitzmaurice; Paudie Galvin, Chris Allen, Declan McCarthy; Conor Fitzmaurice(0-1), Paul Galvin, Pat Corridan; Maurice Corridan (0-1), John McCarthy; Keefer Roche, Stephen Power, John Griffin (0-1); Ricky Heffernan (1-3), Enda Galvin (0-4f), James Flaherty(0-1). Subs who played: Jack Corridan, Fergus Fitzmaurice.
