SENIOR FOOTBALL
Conditions
were quite good for the important Round 11 tie in O'Sullivan Park between
the home side and Listowel Emmets. The tone of the game was set from the throw
in when Noel Kennelly drove through the centre of the Finuge defence that was
forced to concede a penalty. Cormac Mulvihill duly goaled from the spot and
although Enda Galvin goaled for Finuge soon afterwards following good work by
Stephen Power the visitors were always in control against an understrength
young home side. Leading 1-6 to 1-3 at half time , Emmets dominated proceedings
in the second half and the gap quickly widened, Finuge's only scores in this
period coming from 2 Enda Galvin frees. Brian McGuire, Denis Walsh and
midfielders Noel Kennelly and Micheál Lynch were on top around the centre for
Listowel and provided the forwards with plenty opportunities. With Conor
Cox (5pts) and Cormac Mulvihill particularly prominent throughout the game
against an over worked Finuge defence the visitors ran out easy winners 1-13 to
1-5. Because of results elsewhere both teams were promoted to
Division 1, Finuge as champions. Following the game the Division 2 winners
trophy was presented to captain, Raymond Galvin , a significant milestone in
the club's history. Comhghairdeas to the panel and management for the
outstanding campaign that yielded 5 wins, 4 draws and 2 defeats. We can now
look forward to taking on some of the biggest clubs in the county in Division 1
in 2014. In the meantime attention will now turn to the County Championship
relegation clash with Kilcummin on 30th November and to the draw for the North
Kerry championship semi-final. Team v Emmets: Cillian Fitzmaurice;
