Finuge GAA Notes   09/09/2013

DORA JOY R.I.P.
Club vice president Dora Joy was laid to rest in Finuge Cemetery last Tuesday. The former national teacher was a lifelong Finuge supporter and was very active especially at Bord na nÓg level since the mid 1970s. The guard of honour of club members was a fitting tribute to this dedicated club worker. Sympathy is extended to her son Johnny who continues the family tradition of Bord na nÓg involvement. and also to Mary, Georgie, Gary and their families. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam uasal.
SENIOR FOOTBALL
The Finuge team suffered its first defeat in the 2013 Credit Union County League in Round 10 in Kenmare last Saturday evening. The local Shamrocks, inspired by County panellist Steven O'Brien led 1-9 to 0-5 at half time and went on to record a convincing victory, 1-14 to 0-9.
Finuge were short many regulars due to injury and other reasons and credit is due to the 15 (including veteran John Coleman) who lined out and gave a committed display against the odds. Despite the defeat Finuge continues to lead the division and because of other results last weekend the club is now assured of promotion to Division 1 for the first time. Two league point from the remaining games against St.Pat's, Blennerville (backgame) and Listowel Emmets would ensure promotion as Division 2 champions. Team: John Coleman; Eoin McCarthy, Chris Allen, Declan McCarthy; Jack Corridan, Trevor McKenna, Enda Galvin; Maurice Corridan (0-2, 0-1f), John McCarthy; Steven Power, Fergus Fitzmaurice (0-3f), Darren O'Sullivan (0-2); Brian O'Sullivan, Cillian Fitzmaurice, Conor Fitzmaurice (0-2). We wish Raymond Galvin and Pat Corridan a speedy recovery from injury. The team has received a bye in the first round of the North Kerry Championship.
