North Kerry Championship : Tarbert bowed out at the quarter final stage of this year’s championship losing to Ballyduff on a scoreline of 1-8 to 0-8. Played in Listowel where underfoot conditions were good despite all the rain, it was Michael Heaphy who opened the score for Tarbert after ten minutes. Scores were at a premium with both sets of backs playing well and the score at half time was 0-3 each. Ballyduff went a point up after half time but Tarbert were winning the battles in most areas of the field except in front of scores. Frees from Ger O’Sullivan and Cillian Langan put Tarbert up one before an excellent Ambrose Lanigan point put Tarbert up two on a scorline of 0-8 to 0-6. Ballyduff to their credit kept plugging away and two frees levelled the game going into injury time. Then the match winning score came when Tarbert lost possession which resulted in a penalty being awarded to Ballyduff. This was executed to perfection and gave Tarbert’s goalie Jamie Diggins no chance. Ballyduff now play Listowel in the semi final while Tarbert’s season in now over for another year.
