North Kerry Division 3 League Final
Sponsored by McCarthy Insurance Listowel
Report by Sean Moriarty
Ballydonoghue B 3.12 v Moyvane B 2.07
O Rahilly Park, Ballylongford was in perfect condition on Tuesday evening last, 22nd May, for the McCarthy Insurance North Kerry League Div. 3 Final between Moyvane B and Ballydonoghue B.On a beautiful summer's evening Moyvane opened the scoring with a point from midfielder John Jack Mulvihill in the first minute before Ballydonoghue started to dominate proceedings scoring three points in the process-Brian Mason from play in the 3rd min, Padraig Lyons from a free after a foul on Jack Behan in the 4th min and Jack Behan scoring a free, after being fouled himself, in the 11th minute.Diarmuid Leahy replied for Moyvane in the 15th min but two minutes later Kevin O Donnell goaled for Ballydonoghue after a good move.Niall Sheehan for Moyvane and Brian Mason for Ballydonoghue swopped points before Dermot O Connor netted again for Ballydonoghue with a great shot to the corner after being put through by Kevin O Donnell.John Jack Mulvihill pointed from a free to bring the first half to a close with the scoreboard reading Ballydonoghue B 2-04 Moyvane B 0-04
Jack Behan picked out Padraig Lyons to score the opening point of the second half.Moyvane were playing with more urgency now and were probing for a goal , which they nearly got in the 4th min, when Diarmuid Leahy was through, only to blast over the bar for a point.Padraig Lyons in the 9th min and a sweet point from the left leg of Danny Power in the 10th min stretched the Ballydonoghue lead to 8 pts with 20 mins to play.Moyvane,as is customary, kept asking questions and in particular sought to exploit the height of Diarmuid Leahy around the square. One such high ball broke in the 11th min and David Moloney was the first to react and blasted the ball to the net to reduce the deficit to 5 pts.Brian Mason in the 16th min and Shea Leahy in the 18th min. with a lovely score from distance exchanged points but this was as close as Moyvane were to get.It was to be the Jack Behan show from here on with the impressive young player scoring 1-04 in the last 10 mins, off both legs, the goal coming after great work by Padraig Enright.Jack Goulding pointed for Moyvane in the 26th min and Diarmuid Leahy goaled in the 29th min but it was Ballydonoghue's night and they made up for the disappointment of losing last year's decider to deservedly win the first competition of the 2018 North Kerry calender,on a score of Ballydonoghue B 3-12 Moyvane B 2-07. Moyvane were unfortunate to lose players to injury in the run-up to the Final, which didn't help their cause and they also lost young Ciaran Ahern to a serious looking injury in the13th min and everyone wishes him well.
Vice-Chairman of the NKB, Eddie A. Walsh presented the cup to winning captain Darren Gogarty, thanking Con McCarthy for his generous sponsorship of the Board's Leagues. He also thanked referee John Hennessy, who was his usual competent self, and his four umpires for doing a great job,the Ballylongford Club for the use of their fine facility and of course both teams for a sporting game.
