North Kerry Minor Division 1 FinalListowel Emmets 2.18 v Castleisland Desmonds 2.14

This game was played on Monday evening last under perfect conditions in Knocknagoshel, thank you to the Knocknagoshel Club for the use of their fine facilities.  When these teams meet earlier in the league it was the Desmonds boys who took the honours, but it hurt the Emmets and again these two town sides renewed their football rivalry.  There was more at stake on this occasion and from the throw in you could sense the urgency from the Emmets men, they were hungry and eager to capture the title from last years winners.  It took Emmets only 2 minutes to register their first point a free converted by Sean Keane, who went on to score seven more points for his side six more in the first half and a point in the second half, with Emmet's adding another two points before Desmond's got in on the act with a free converted from Stephen Murphy, again  the Desmonds added a point from wing forward Adam Donoghue, But Emmets were having none of it and ran at Desmond's defence with rampant pace adding another four points and the clock was only at the 17th minute.  The Desmonds mentors were trying to regroup their team making positional changes and getting their match ups correct.  With both teams playing a sweeper, the Desmonds mentors decided it was time for a man marking job and dropped their sweeper Ben Cooney back on his man he was now a forward, a position that Ben seemed to enjoy and to say thank you to the sideline Ben duly rattled the Emmets net with 23 minutes gone on the clock and with now only four points between the sides you could sense a comeback, but Emmets again rallied their troops and as the ball was kicked out moved at pace down the field and Emmets Darren Loughnane raised the green flag, to bring 7 points the margin again. Before the half time whistle Emmets added four moure points with Desmond's managing 2 more half time score Emmets 1.14 v Desmond's 1.05

The half time talk seemed to work for the Desmonds boys and the second half seen a different team, their backs were tackling with the intensity that Emmets showed in the first half and now the forwards were urgent in moving the ball into the danger area, it was now Emmets turn to take the waves of pressure to defend their comfortable scoreline.  It was corner forward for Desmond's Danny Hickey who started the scoring with a quick point after the throw in, but Emmets Darren Loughnane again replied in the 35th minute of the game, The Desmonds corner forward Danny Hickey (3 pts) and midfielder David Shanahan (1 pt) joint forces and from the 36th minute to the 44th minute added four points between them without reply.  It was Emmets man of the match Sean Keane who replied in the 45th minute adding a point from play, it took a further four minutes before a flag was raised when Desmond's midfielder David Shanahan foot passed the ball into the top corner of the net and a green flag waved in the air. There was now one score between the side a three point difference.  Could Desmond's get another goal.  Emmets were hungry and could feel it slipping from their grasp, so again another level was required and the 15 young men on the pitch answered the call from their sideline to up it.  The three young men to take it on board were capt Lorcan Moloney (1pt), a second goal from Darren Loughnane and a point from Sean Keane, to secure the title for 2017.  Desmond's managed another four points before the full time whistle but they left a mountain to climb in the first half and it was just short.  As a neutral the North Kerry Minor Championship meeting of these two sides should be a show of football for all to see. Kerry Senior Team Kerry 2.14 v Mayo 2.14The Kerry Senior team must do it all again in the All Ireland Semi Final against Mayo next Saturday 26th August at 3pm in Croke Park, this team had not been tested up until this point and Mayo were battle hardened having played their eight game to reach the Semi Finals, Mayo were sharper and hunger some might even say starved.  But we should not forget that Kerry last brought home the Sam Maguire Cup back in 2014.  If we are to succeed next Saturday we need to tighten up our defence, Donnacha Walsh was missed on the pitch for his work rate but it was great to see the leadership of Kieran Donaghy and his presence on the pitch still having the opposing team play their game to Kerry's tune. So to our local players Anthony Maher Duagh played mid field up until halftime when he was replaced by young Jack Barry and Shane Enright Tarbert at cornerback finding it hard to come to grips with one Andy Moran whose tally on the day was 1.05.  Can Kerry reach the All Ireland Final this year we will have to wait until Saturday best of luck to Management and players

Kerry Minor TeamKerry 2.22 v Cavan 2.10The Minor team are on track to retain their All Ireland Title for the fourth year in a row but just one team stand in their way and that team will be known next Sunday.  Congratulations to Adam Donoghue Castleisland and Barry Mahoney St Senans on a great performance in Croke Park. And what a performance from Fossa David Clifford scoring 1.10. Best of luck to all in the All Ireland Final.
