Clounmacon 2-11
Ballydonoghue 1-13
Clounmacon are champions after a nail biting encounter with Ballydonoghue which was played in OâRahilly Park Ballylongford on Tuesday the 26th of May. Sheer courage, hunger and a never say die attitude saw Clounmacon win by 1 point in what was, a cracker of a game. Paudie Quinn set Clounmacon on their way with 2 early points but Ballydonoghue hit back and found themselves up by 5 points after 20 minutes. Clounmacon looked in trouble until midfielder Tom McCarthy caught a ball and from midfield made a splitting run before unleashing a shot which the Ballydonoghue goalkeeper spilled. Bryan Murphy was on hand to knock the rebound into the back of the net. Clounmacon noched up 3 more quick points after that to leave the half time score at Clounmacon 1-7, Ballydonoghue 0-8.
Clounmacon got off to a dream start in the second half and in the first 10 minutes man of the match, Bryan Murphy scored 1-2. But in fairness to Ballydonoghue they never gave up and were only down 2 points midway through the second half when they were awarded a penalty which goalie Shane OâSullivan made an excellent save. Minutes later Ballydonoghue scored a goal which put them a point up. It was anybodyâs game at this stage until Clounmacon won a free which Chris Lyons put over the bar, thus levelling the scores. With virtually time up Clounmacon were awarded a free on the 45 yard line which Paudie Quinn stepped up to send the ball high over the bar for the winning score to the delight of the Clounmacon supporters and players, who erupted with joy when referee, Seamus Mulvihill blew the final whistle seconds later. North Kerry delegate Maurice Mannix was on hand at the presentation of the cup to team captain Fintan McEnery. Well done to all the team, manager Enda Murphy and his selectors Brendan Griffin, Mike Collins and Tom Barry on a magnificent performance. Clounmacon Abú!
