Quarter Finals

Report by Jack Hennessy

Castleisland Desmonds 1.13  v Finuge 0.05

Firm favourites beforehand Castleisland Desmonds continued their North Kerry Championship campaign with another impressive performance and were assured of success from a long way off by defeating Finuge who in fairness battled to the final whistle;did have  a good share of possession but never threatened when it came to the scoring stakes; but i'm afraid they were always playing second fiddle to the Islanders who are a step nearer now and will fancy their chances in completing that 3-in-a-row of titles. Played at Stack Park Ballybunion the pitch was in perfect condition despite the terrible amount of rain that fell. Castleisland played with that slight breeze in the opening half and were quick to get the scoreboard ticking over with Cian J O O'Connor lofting over; however Finuge were quick to reply with former Kerry footballer Pat Corridan splitting the posts but that was to be as near as they got to the Islanders as they took over with some superb points coming from. Brian Leonard, (2) Adam O Donoghue, (2), Cian J O Connor, Graham O Connor, (2), having them well at the break with Pat Corridan and Darragh Shannon only Finuge reply; leaving the score at the break; Castleisland Desmonds, 0-9 to Finuges 0-3. On the restart Finuge had a lot of work to do and in fairness winning a good share of possession they were either turned over by the Castleisland defence and any rare attack on goal came to nothing. Brian Leonard and Maurice Hickey were always to the fore at midfield but Pat Corrida and Johnny Buckley gave good service.Graham O Connor kicked his 3rd free of the game after 4 minutes before Adam O Donoghue, Brian Leonard, added to the scoresheet by the 10th minute. Colin Sheehy got one back for Finuge along with substitute Keltyn Molloy who were trying very hard to break down a solid Desmonds defence. Still 10mts or so to go and it turned out to be all one way traffic as Desmonds added a further 1-1 to their tally. Substitute Kieran Brennan kicked a neat point while Luke Lyons drove an unstoppable piledriver past Finuge keeper Martin Stackpoole. Overall not the most enjoyable game to watch but the better team were streets ahead of their opponents. Tarbert 1.15 v Duagh 0.06

Duagh v Tarbert.

Venue was O'Rahilly Park, Ballylongford on what was a mild afternoon for the North Kerry Championship.

After 8 minutes of play Gérard O Sullivan opened the score line for Tarbert. This was not due to the great efforts of Donnacha Mahar who was simply a power house for Duagh, he never gave up and powered on throughout the game. The second score of the game came again from Gérard O Sullivan in the 15th minute. Killian Buckley Duagh scored the first point for Duagh after 16 minutes of play, quickly followed by another point from Cillian Langan.

With ten minutes left to half time,

Tarbert 0.03, Duagh 0.02. Jack Moloney and  Seanain O Caoimh played their defense role well, but with Cillian Langan putting another over from a free in the 25th minute. The half time score stood at Tarbert 0.06 Duagh 0.01.

After a minute of the second half Patsy O Connell pointed for Tarbert, with a greatly  preticited ball from Mark Buckely. Duagh responded with a point from Aaron O Connor. Duagh were issued with a black card which resulted in Duagh playing 14 against a strong physical side from Tarbert. Cillian Lanagan again converted another point for Tarbert , leaving them now ahead by 6 points. Tarbert 0.08 Duagh 0.02.

Killian Buckley Duagh scored for Duagh, again followed by Tarbert. Throughout this quarter final, Tarbert displayed a great team effort and played with assurance. Gérard O Sullivan scored a goal for Tarbert which would decide their spot in the Semi final Draw. Duagh had a never give up attitude and fought hard throughout. Tarbert proved stronger on the day and from start to finish they looked strong throughout. The game finished on a score line

Tarbert 1.15 Duagh 0.05.

U15 McElligott Oil Division 1 Championship Final

Report by Maurice Mannix

Listowel Emmets 0.06 v Ballyduff 1.11

McElligott Oils Asdee sponsored the u15 North Kerry Championship Division 1 Final.

The curtain came down on the North Kerry Coiste na Nog year with the meeting of Ballyduff and Listowel Emmets . Weather conditions were ideal as was the playing surface in Moyvane.

Listowel were first to score with a point on the third minute from play by midfielder Trevor Chute. It was the 10th minute before the next score came and that was an excellent point from Jack Segal for Ballyduff. Straight after Jake Rochford for Ballyduff hit the crossbar with Listowel keeper Harry Reidy beaten.  That began a purple patch for Ballyduff with further points by Jack Enright (2) and Callum Carey Sheehy (2) to give Ballyduff a lead of 5 points to 1. Listowels next score came on the 19th minute with a point by Dylan Toomey after a great run along the end line by midfielder Trevor Chute. Ballyduff replied immediately through Jack Enright and again that began another scoring burst by Ballyduff with further points by Callum Carey Sheehy, Jake Rochford and Jake Segal to put Ballyduff into an 8 point to 2 lead approaching half time. Listowel steadied the ship with points by Daniel Shine from play and an Oisin Mulvihill free. The last score of the half was by Ballyduffs Jake Rochford to leave 5 points between the team's at half time.

Ballyduff 0.09 Listowel Emmets 0.04

Scores in the second half were more sporadic but again it was Ballyduff who increased their lead with a point by Jake Rochford after a well taken mark. Jack Enright added another from play. Unfortunately for Listowel it wasn't until the 18th minute of the second half before they got their first points both coming from frees by Oisin Mulvihill. Listowel continued to attack but couldn't penetrate the Ballyduff defence with both corner backs Reece O'Connor and John Curtin outstanding. As the game approached full time Ballyduff struck for goal when corner forward Fionn Houlihan sent an unstoppable shot to the Listowel net with the keeper Harry Reidy having no chance. Moments later referee Tadgh Murphy Duagh blew the full time whistle to give Ballyduff a well deserved North Kerry Division 1 Championship title on a score

Ballyduff 1. 11 Listowel Emmets 0.06

Ballyduffs victory was gained by a far greater spread of fine individual displays by Reece O'Connor ,John Curtin, Jake Rochford, Jake Segal, Callum Carey Sheehy and Jack Enright. Listowel were best served by midfielders John Carmody, Trevor Chute and Oisin Mulvihill upfront.  Coiste na Nog Chairman Sean McCarthy Castleisland Desmonds presented the shield to Ballyduffs winning captain Michael Houlihan.

Thanks again to referee Tadgh Murphy ( Duagh ) and his officials on an excellent job . The Moyvane club for the use of the excellent pitch to round off an outstanding North Kerry Coiste na Nog year with so many excellent games in all under age competitions. Thanks again to everyone who helped in anyway to the running of the leagues and championships.
