Beale GAA   19/04/2022

Having played three games in the County League, Division 4, we are placed ninth on the table, with two points. We will be hopeful of keeping on a winning streak and that home advantage will pay dividends in our next three games. We play Scartaglin in Páirc de Staic on Saturday evening at 7 o’clock. In May, we play host to Duagh and Knocknagoshel.

Unable to field a team, we forfeited the semi-final of the North Kerry League, Division 1 against St Senans. Tarbert are our opponents in the opening round of Group 3 of the County Junior Club Championship. We await details.

Well done to the Beale lads and their teammates as Ballyduff are through to the final of the County Minor League, Division 2. They had the upper hand on Ardfert in the semi-final. Ballyduff play Rathmore in the final on Thursday at 6.30pm in Castleisland.

A huge ‘míle buíochas’ to everyone who supports and promotes the Beale Lotto.

President of Kerry County Board, Gerald McKenna, has passed to his eternal reward. Considered one of the greatest ambassadors of the GAA, he was a great advocate and promoter of the game and his contribution to the GAA at all levels has been well documented.

Ger served, with distinction, as Chairman of the Kerry County Board and held a variety of roles at county, provincial and national level in an illustrious career. His decision to decline the repeated urgings to stand for election for the Presidency of the GAA has been considered the Association's loss.

A friend of Beale GAA down the years, Ger, as County chairman, was instrumental in the amalgamation of Beale and St Patrick clubs in the early 1970s to form the current Beale GAA Club. In Ger's own words, 'only one meeting took place between the clubs, lasting no more than five minutes' as he had agreed the outcome with both parties in advance.

Following that occasion, his only contribution was, again in his own words, to 'keep a fatherly eye on Beale's performance and to attend socials.' At the 1977 Beale social, he nominated Ogie Moran as Kerry captain for the following year. Ger gladly shared many memories with us when we wrote our club history book, 'Sand in Our Boots'.

Beale GAA extends sympathy to the McKenna family and his colleagues in Ballyduff Club and Kerry GAA. Ar dheis Dé gurb a anam uasal.
