Beale seniors kept hopes of divisional promotion alive with a comprehensive win over near neighbours, Asdee, in the County League, Division 5 on Sunday. Played in Páirc de Staic, the teams exchanged scores in the opening minutes and a competitive game ensued We went into the interval 0-7 to 0-4 to the good and Asdee narrowed our lead to just two points on the changeover.

Goals were the order of the day in the second half as we raised the green flag twice in the first ten minutes and stretched our lead to twelve points. Asdee pulled us back and goaled from the penalty spot. Our opponents tried hard in the last quarter while our defence held firm and made scores hard come by. The final score read 2-13 to 1-10.

Beale lined out as: Seán Dee, John Griffin, Shane Joy, Jeremy King, Fionnán Toomey (0-1), Killian Walsh-O’Boyle, Phillie Blake (1-0), Neilus Mulvihill, Seamie O’Sullivan, Ian Mannix (1-1), James McMahon (0-1), Bernard O’Callaghan, Cormac Linnane (0-8 (4f)), Cillian Courtney and Darragh Buckley (0-2 (1f)). Substitutes: Callum McSweeney for Bernard O’Callaghan, Paul Collins for Shane Joy (inj), Barry O’Mahony for Cillian Courtney, Colm Kissane for Killian Walsh-O’Boyle, Jack O’Sullivan for James McMahon and Fintan Linnane for Paul Collins (inj).

We are hopeful that history repeats itself and that we are promoted from Division 5 after just one year. At the beginning of the noughties, we were demoted to Division 5 in 2003 and, after one season, we bounced back. We continued to climb the divisional ladder in this decade, playing Division 4 in 2004 and Division 3 the following year. We were promoted to Division 2 in 2006, where we remained for the next two years.

We now play Kilgarvan in the divisional promotion play-off for third place, with the winners promoted to Division 4. Date yet to be confirmed.

Beale GAA Club host our Annual General Meeting on Saturday, December 7th, at 8.30pm in Ballybunion Community Centre. Nominations for club officers and motions for the AGM to be submitted to the Secretary by November 15th.
