COUNTY NOVICE CHAMPIONSHIP

Asdee  4-18    Moyvane  2-13

Played at Brosnan Park on Sunday last and after a lack lustre opening half in which the home side dominated and in fairness should have been further ahead at the break but Asdee powered by their midfielder, Darragh Keane put in a storming second half that saw 14 different scorers along with 37 scores that went into extra time. The opening half say the home side very much on top but kicked some bad wides and after 14mts led 0-5 to 0-1 with Sean Keane Asdees only scorer with a point in the 5th minute. Full forward Ian McCarthy  was on fire for the home side and 3 points in a row had them well in control. However the visitors got the break they needed to get back in the game and a piledriver from Jack Keane rebounded back and there was Cyril Dineen to palm the ball to the net in the 15th minute. This seemed to settle Asdee and with Paul O Carroll and Darren Russell very much to the fore at this particular juncture they led  by a point for the first time; however a defensive error on the stroke of half time saw Eoin Flaherty take advantage of the slip up to drive the ball to the net. Half Time Moyvane 1-6 Asdee 1-4. Worse was to follow when Eoin Flaherty in the first minute on resumption steered  the ball home. However the visitors never panicked and by the 16th minute had drawn the tie level; 2-6 to 1-9 as Darragh Keane, Eoin Kennedy and Paul O Carroll added points. For the remainder of the half it was nip and tuck as the game ebbed and flowed. Martin Stack and Michael Collins were on target and as we approached the remaining 5 minutes even though Asdee had plenty possession but they found it hard to hit the target to level the game so it looked as if the home side  would prevail as they held a 2 point lead. Then at the death Darragh Keane came to his sides rescue with a free 30 meters out near the sideline driving it over the black spot sending the game to extra time. Asdee 1-14 Moyvane 2-11. In all fairness they were understrength and it showed in the extra time as Asdee just toyed with the opposition. Cyril Dineen  goal poacher supreme got in for his second goal after a pass from the impressive Shay Doran in the 1st mt. As Darragh Keane, Eoin Tydings and Con Carmody splitting the uprights. Martin Stack was Moyvanes only scorer. H T Asdee 3-18 Moyvane2-12. Second period of extra time saw Eoin Flaherty  in for a neat goal but there was no way back for the home side. An injury time goal from Sean Keane closed the scoring. Asdee 4-18 Moyvane 2-13. Referee, Eddie Barrett, Knocknagoshel must be complimented having a full line of match officials on duty. PRESENTATION

There was great excitement at the Community Centre on Tuesday evening last amongst parents and National School children at a special function organised by the local Coiste Na nOg for the presentation of “training tops” very kindly sponsored by John Dillane of “Asdee International; Ireland/China. Johns father Michael was born and raised in Asdee where John spent all his summers with his many friends and relations and who was delighted and honoured to be able to acknowledge the great work of Coiste na Nog; boys and girls and trainers and mentors who participated in training all winter for both football and Scor. Coiste Na Nog Chairman, Gerdie O Carroll thanked John  for his generous sponsorship and  was loud in his praise of all the work that was done at underage level and especially  at this age group and stated that the future looked bright for the Club. Both Club Secretaries, Liz Doran and Geraldine O Connor came in for special mention as did Underage National School coaches, Ritchard Dee and Charles Dalton. Senior Club Chairman, Sean Doran and former Kerry Footballer, John Kennedy also addressed the attendance. An added attraction to the evening was the many photographs old and new that was on display and of course the medal collection which included the famous Croke Memorial Medal which was on display . This medal is certainly historical as  it was in that Croke Memorial  Final 1913 after a replay between Kerry the winners and Louth that attracted a record crowd at the time of 32,000 and a cash floe of £1,930 and it was that windfall which enabled the G A A to purchase the then Jones  Road. Thus did Croke Park come into existence and Asdees Jack Moriarty was one of the players who helped to buy the now famous ground. All Ireland Senior and Junior, (John Kennedy), Munster, Senior and  Minor, (John and Eoin Kennedy)  Ladies All Ireland, (Emer McElligott), Freshers All Ireland Colleges, I T Tralee, (Eoin Kennedy) along with much more too numerous to mention. The evening came to a close with everybody treated to some light refreshments.
