Beale GAA   21/08/2018

Our fate in the County League for 2019 was decided on Sunday afternoon when Beale seniors lost out to St Michael’s, Foilmore, in the final round game in Ballybunion. It was a must win game for us but we succumbed to the challenges of a better team on the day.

Our opponents got off to a dream start, rattling the net in the opening minutes and we found ourselves 1-4 to no score adrift before we settled into the game. In a fast-paced, hard-tackling match, we trailed by 1-6 to 0-4 at the short whistle. We reduced the deficit with a goal on the changeover and put it up to our visitors. However, they upped a gear again and we found ourselves five points down before we hit a purple patch. Another goal put us in the driving seat and we levelled with just seven minutes remaining. In a heart-stopping final quarter, we edged into a one-point lead. However, St Michael’s finished stronger and we lost by two points, 2-8 to 1-13.

It has been a difficult year for us in the County League and winning only three games, drawing one and losing the other seven has meant that relegation is inevitable and we play Division 5 football next year. We suffered a similar demise in 2002 when we were demoted to Dividion 5 and after one season, we bounced back. We played Division 4 in 2004 and Division 3 the following year. We continued to climb the divisional ladder in this decade and were promoted to Division 2 in 2006, where we remained for the next two years.

Beale minors play Desmonds in Division 1 of the North Kerry League, on Tuesday in Páirc de Staic at 7.30. With our two recent wins, a place in the semi-final seems inevitable.

Beale juniors play Na Gaeil in the County Junior Cup competition on Friday evening in Páirc de Staic @ 6.45. The winners of this game qualify for Barrett Cup competition, while the defeated team qualifies for Cahill Cup competition. The competition will then run on a knock-out basis, with our next game on Friday week.

It’s that time of year again. The draws for the North Kerry Championship take place on Friday, August 31st.

Shannon Rangers were defeated by a much stronger Austin Stacks side in the quarter final of the County Minor Championship on Tuesday evening. The final score read 7-15 to 0-5. Shannon Rangers play Dingle in the County Senior Championship on Saturday, September 1st, in Dingle at 5.30pm.
