MUNSTER FINALS

It was a fantasticevening for Coiste Scor Chiarrai at last Sundays; (January 7th)Munster Finals of Coiste Scor Na Mumhan held in the Community Centre, OvensCounty Cork where the huge Kerry contingent of supporters celebrated in stylewith the Spa Set Dancers, East Kerry Board who in fact are the current Munsterand All Ireland champions and Na Gaeil from the Tralee/St.Brendans Board inLeiriu who completed a marvellous double to book their place at the All IrelandFinals of Scor Na Nog to take place in the Knockrea Arena,Sligo I.T. on Saturday February 17th 2018. 

However spare a thought for our remaining fourrepresentatives; Spa East Kerry Board in Figure Dancing, Dearble Quirke, Tralee/St.Brendans in Recitation, Instrumental Music by Kilcummin, East Kerry Board andGlenflesk. East Kerry Board in Ballad Group who all performed brilliantly butfailed to get the Adjudicors nod on this occasion. Still it was a great honourfor Coiste Scor Chiarrai to have so many involved at this level of competitionand all the participants can feel proud of their performances; doing theirrespective Clubs and County proud on the day.

So the following go through to the All IrelandFinals along with the Quiz.

For the record the remaining winners on theday were; Cork in Solo Singing, Recitation, Instrumental and Ballad Group.Figure Dancing went to Tipperary.

 

COUNTY QUIZ FINAL

The County Finals ofScor Na nOg Trath Na gCeisteana Coiste Scor Chiarrai took place at the AustinStack Park, Pavilion on Thursday evening last January 4th and despite only 7Clubs; Dr. Crokes, Spa, Legion, Kilcummin, Laune Rangers, Abbeydorney, Kenmaretaking part; the evening was thoroughly enjoyed by all  who attended. It is well documented by nowthat the County Finals of Trath Na gCeisteanna is a seperate event from theremainder of the Scor Na nOg programme where the County Final winners wouldautomaticly qualify for the All Ireland finals to battle it out with theremaining 31 Counties for National honours.

Cultural Officer ofCoiste Scor Chiarrai, Christy Kileen got proceedings underway and  welcomed everybody to the venue while Quizmaster for the occasion Fionan Fitzgerald, Assistant Secretary of the CountyBoard was very popular with  theparticipants and did an excellent job  

So after a titanicbattle with all Clubs well in the hunt up to the final round Spas dominance inthis discpline over the past 4 years came to an end; but only by a singlepoint; (57—56) when their District Boards neighbours Dr. Crokes were crownedthe 2017/18 County Scor Na nOg champions and have now qualified for the AllIreland Finals  onSaturday February  17th in thePegasus Ballroom, Clayton Hotel, Sligo with a 11am starting time.

Its worth recalling that Spa Club havecontested the last 3 All Ireland Finals but were deprived of a 3-in-a-row lastyear. 

The Dr. Crokes winning team consisted of MarkCooper, Treasa O Sullivan, Cillian Hickey and Jamie Muldoon and were presentedwith their winners medals by the Cultural Officer of Coiste Scor Chiarrai;Christy Kileen.

However the Spa Club didn’t go empty handedon the night as they received their runners-up medals (Dara Lawlor, LauraFleming, Sean Hickey, Daniel O Sullivan)  and to finish off a great year in Scor Na nOgfor the Spa Club their Cultural Officer Eileen Aherne was presented with theoverall Club of the year at this level of competition.

Next up Scor SinsearCounty Finals Sat Feb 24th . All District Boards take note that all District Board Finals must becompleted well in advance of this date.  Dateto be confirmed for County Quiz Finals.
