NORTH  KERRY  SENIOR  CHAMPIONSHIP.    Asdee vListowel Emmets at 5pm, Frank Sheehy Park, Listowel; This Saturday November 4thin the McMunns Bar and Restaurant, Ballybunion. Sponsored Bernard OCallaghan Memorial North Kerry Senior Football Championship for a place in theSemi Final of the competition.

The majority of football followers willput this down as a David v Goliath clash and rightly so; after all Listowel canclaim 15 titles to Asdees single victory all of 83 years ago; Asdee havereached the second round on only 3 occasions where Emmets have been knocking onthe door for outright honours almost each year. Certainly the bookies will havethe “Townies” down as bankers which will probably help Asdee in a way; they arenot expected to turn over one of the favourites despite excelling in theirfirst round game against Knocknagoshel kicking 4-17 into the bargain. Asdeewill go into this game with no pressure; they have prepaired well; certainlywont be no pushover and all going well can give a good account of themselves.Still it would be the shock of the championship if Emmets failed to get throughas they are oozing with talent from 1 to 30. Looking back to 1996 which was theone and only time the sides clashed in the championship and on that occasionAsdee having to line out without a number of injured players went down by justa 4 point margin to reach the semi final. It is worth recalling that in recentfirst round championship clashes involving Asdee; the  2014 winners and 2016 victors Beale andBallydonoghue respectively both went on to lift the Eamon O Donoghue Cup; socan Emmets follow on. So will Frank Sheehy Park witness the Shannonsidersreaching the semi final or will Emmets move a step closer to collecting their16 title. Emmets to go forward on everybodys mind but expect a toughexamination from St. Marys.

It is worth recalling that the team thatcreated club history by winning the first round of the senior championship in1996 defeating Ballydonoghue by 1-10 to 1-9 at Brosnan Park, Moyvane with James “Chassie” Cronin, Duagh as Referee;  were; Gerard O Carroll, Martin Costello, TomKennedy, Kevin O Callaghan, capt, Padraig Vallelly, Liam Doyle, Tom Long, SeanDoran, Barry Healy, Danny Finucane, Donie O Keeffe, Patrick O Brien, SeanMulvihill, Eoin O Mahony, John Kennedy. Subs; Mike Long for Martin Costello,Ger O Connor for Donie O Keeffe, Kevin Vallelly, Nellie O Connor, Eamon OConnor, Paudie Deenihan, Danny Mulvihill.

PHOTOGRAPHS. 2013 was an historic yearfor the St. Marys, Asdee G A A  Club bywinning a Munster “B” title defeating Charlville, County Cork in an epic final to become one of the few North Kerry Clubs to hold Munster medals.
