ASDEE G A A

NORTH  KERRY  SENIOR  CHAMPIONSHIP.  Knocknagoshelv Asdee. The bookies will have either of these two teams down as no hopers to win the McMunns Bar and Restaurant,Ballybunion, Sponsored Bernard O Callaghan Memorial North Kerry Senior FootballChampionship and maybe rightly so; Knocknagoshel have never lifted the Eamon ODonoghue Cup and it was Craughdarrig who represented Asdee away back in 1934with their one and only title; and in fairness to say who ever comes out ofthis encounter on Sunday would be clashed as easy prey for their opponents inthe next round. However sometimes it dosent go according to plan though; ashappened on a several different occasions down through the years. Just look atBrosna who were rated very average back through the years but they went toCroker and brought home a National Title and in fairness they could very wellhave captured the Eamon O Donoghue a few years ago when Listowel Emmetsdefeated them after a replay. Asdee took them to a replay the year they won theAll Ireland Junior so that just tells you North Kerry Championship medals canbe hard to get a hold of. Both Asdee and Knock as already stated have beenstruggling and  haven’t that much successto date; going out in the earlier rounds on the majority of occasions; Asdeewho have been playing in the Senior Championship since the mid 90s and haveonly got over the first round on 2 occasions defeating Ballydonoghue in 1996and Ballylongford 19 years later but to be fair Asdee have always put up a goodshow against the so called stronger teams and on a few occasions having beenunlucky not to take the spoils. Going back to the game itself these teams haveclashed on several occasions at North Kerry League and Credit Union CountyLeague but never in Senior North Kerry Championship but the thing is that Knockhave the Indian sign over Asdee in the past few years and hopefully this can berectified this time round. In fairness both teams are not fairing out well incompetition with a few years and on Asdees side of the story their season hasnot gone according to plan to say the least, struggling at the wrong end ofDivision 5; they have been plagued with injuries and retirements and with avery tight panel to pick from. It has been difficult but with the great workdone by our Management team ;John Kennedy and Dan Dalton and the help of ourmarvelous Community we just take every game as it comes and always look forwardto our next win. Can this Sunday be the day we dream of;  but as already stated write of Knock at yourperil; we do struggle against them and it will take a full blooded effort fromeach member of the panel to get over this encounter. As for the favouritiestag; this will go out the window on this occasion as it will be all on the dayand the team that rises to the occasion will qualify for the next round.Hopefully that team will be Asdee.
