ASDEE G AA

COUNTY LEAGUE. Asdee 0-8   Moyvane 0-12. Moyvane continued to hold the Indian sign over Asdee in recentcompetition and again on Saturday evening last in Round 5 of the Credit UnionCounty League Division 5 that trend remained. This was a good competitiveencounter once Asdee got moving after a rather poor opening 20 minutes and isuppose in fairness the 4 point winning margin by Moyvane was probably a fairresult. 2 Black Cards for Asdee; John Doran in injury time in the first halfand Jack Keane with 3 minutes left for play along with an injury to Paul OCarroll at the end of the third quarter as play was held up for a while didn’thelp the visitors cause. Eoin Flaherty, Moyvane received two yellows gettinghis marching orders 5 minutes into the second half. I must say those cards wereall very controversial as it was a very sporting game of football throughout. Thegame opened with the home team aided by a slight breeze and for 24 minutes ofthis half it looked as if Moyvane would just simply run away with the contestas they controlled matters in almost all areas of the field and by the 21stminute deservedly led by 0-8 to 0-1. Martin Stack listed at corner forwardroamed outfield and kicked 4 excellent points with one from a 45 meter free.Colin Enright added 3 also from play as Diarmuid Leahy and Joe Coulson heldsway at midfield. In fairness Kieran Kelly did make a few runs but each timethe ball reached the Asdee attack it was either blocked down or cleared tosafety as the Moyvane rearguard were well up for the game. However the visitorsalthough struggling they  finished thehalf in style and 3 points  from MikeBreen, 2 and Brian Coughlan gave them a lifeline. And in injury time Paul OCarroll split the uprights to leave the half time score Moyvane 0-8 Asdee 0-5.On resumption Asdee came out with all guns blazing and after a number of widesthe deficit was cut to just 2 points when Mike Breen pointed after 9 minutes.Play swung from end to end as scorers were hard to comeby with both defences ontop. Diarmuid Leahy and Colin Enright added points for Moyvane while theimpressive Sean Keane kicked a fine points for the visitors as the margin wasdown to 3 points with 4 minutes remaining. At this stage with Asdee coming moreinto attack but when Moyvane won possession the played around to each otherrunning down the clock. However time allowed for Paul O Carrolls injury sawMoyvane kick further points,Colin Enright and Martin Stack with Mike Breenfinishing Asdee scoring.  Asdee; JamesKelly, Con Carmody, Martin Collins, Conor Keane, Jack Keane, Sean Keane, 1pt,Brian Coughlan, 1pt, Kieran Kelly, John Doran, Mike Breen, 4pts,(2f), EoinKennedy, Eoin Tydings, 1f, Paul O Carroll, 1pt, Michael Tydings, Michael Walsh.Subs; Kieran McNamara for John Doran,(bk), Matt O Hanlon for Jack Keane, (bk),Conor Coughlan for Paul O Carroll, inj.

There hasbeen so many very special days in the clubs 31 years history since it was re-formed in 1986; North Kerrytitles at all age groups, County titles and even a Munster Junior “B” titlealong with many more honours; but just 11 years later i suppose Sunday June 8th  1997 will always stand out, as this was theday that the Club could stand on its own feet with the excellent facilitiescompleted; Dressings Rooms, Stand etc and now with the Official Opening of theJack Walsh Memorial Park; named in honour of one of the great Kerryfootballers. The Opening was performed by Danny Lynch; (P R O- C L G) withKerry and Clare led by the Newcastlewest Pipe Band; entertaining the hugeattendance with a challenge game which was Refereed by Tommy Sugrue, St. Pats,Blennerville. Man of the match sponsored by Michael O Connor and Sons, Builderswas presented to William Kirby, Austin Stacks and who was later in the year toplay a starring role with Kerrys All Ireland senior winning team. RobertBunyan, Ballydonoghue All Ireland winning Kerry Minor captain of 1975  was the match commentator for the videorecording.A 212 page programme marked the occasion. Also present was Eamon OSullivan and  Sean Kelly from the CountyBoard. Chairman and Secretary of the club on that particular year were Jim OConnor and Patsy Coughlan respectively along with our Club President the lateTommy O Connor. There were plenty presentations to various club members on theday but what will always stand out was a presentation to all our All IrelandSenior Football medal holders; Jack Walsh, Jack Moriarty, Paud and Eamon ODonoghue and John Kennedy. Certainly this memorable occasion could never havebeen achieved without the tremendous voluntary work by the various committeesand especially without the generousity of the parish and surrounding areas. There was so many other magnificent memories of the day but space would not permitme to acknowledge everybody.
