County League : Tarbert started their County League campaign with a home game against Firies last Sunday. Possession football was the order of the day initially with both teams keeping plenty of men behind the ball and using the short kick outs. It was Firies who opened the scores with two points before an Andrew Doherty free and Shane O’Connor levelled matters. With fifteen minutes gone Firies got a penalty which was duly scored but this was followed by a Tarbert penalty after a foul on full forward Donal Leahy and goaled by Andrew Doherty to leave the sides level. Another point by Firies was responded by a long high ball from Shane O’Connor which ended up in the back of net to put Tarbert in the driving seat. Firies scored the next two points to see the sides level at half time 2-3 to 1-6.

Tarbert started the second half well and went up two points thanks to Killian Langan and Donal Leahy but then with Jack Sherwood beginning to dominate midfield and getting two excellent points they in turn went up two points entering the final five minutes. Another point from Shane O’Connor and a free from Andrew Doherty levelled matters with time almost up. Tarbert were then on the attack when Firies intercepted a pass and scoring a wonderful point with the last kick of the game. Final score 1-11 to 2-7. Tarbert must now pick themselves up after this defeat where they travel to Ballybunion next Sunday to take on the homeside and a throw in at 2pm. There was a great crowd present at Shannon Park last Sunday and your continued support is appreciated.
