Asdee GAA   20/02/2017

NORTH  KERRY  LEAGUE  Asdee  0-6   Moyvane  1-11. Brosnan Park,

Moyvane was the venue on Sunday last for the meeting of Moyvane and

Asdee in Round 3 of the McCarthys Insurance Brokers Senior League

Division 2 and after a well contested encounter it was the home side

who were deserving winners. They were always first to the ball, much

sharper and well able to take their scores when presented; whereas 7

wides in the opening half by Asdee which included 3 close in frees

certainly didn’t help their cause which continued into the second half

with the visitors only score in the first half coming from a free

after 25 minutes. The game opened with play swinging from end to end

but the home team were two ahead by the 9th minute coming from Martin

Stack and Brian Stack with the latter causing endless problems all

through. Asdee did have their share of possession but had some

deplorable shooting in front of goal. Moyvane were always putting some

nice moves together splitting the visitors defence time and time

again; Padraig Leahy, Kevin Kennelly and Martin Stack had the home

side ahead by 5pts without reply  only for Mike Breen from a free

opened the visitors account in the 25th minute leaving the half time

score Moyvane 0-5 Asdee 0-1. On resumption Asdee were facing into a

stiffish wind and had a difficult assignment ahead. Martin Stack and

Darragh Keane exchanged scores; Asdee did enjoy some possession but as

in the  opening half struggled in the scoring department but this was

due to some outstanding defensive work from Eoin Stack and Shane Stack

who were always in command of a wasteful Asdee attack. Padraig Leahy,

(2f), John Jack Mulvihill and substitute David Moloney added points

with John Doran and Darragh Keane replying for Asdee leaving it

Moyvane 0-10 Asdee 0-4 after 16 minutes. Whatever chance of at least

making a game of it Asdee were dealt a hugh blow when Colin Enright

came up from his wing back position to billow the net from close

range. Asdee did get late points from Eoin Tydings and Mike Breen but

the home side had the final say from Martin Stack. Besides those

already mentioned, Conor and Jack Keane impressed in only their second

outing in senior football, Eoin O Carroll, Eoin Tydings, Darragh

Keane, Con Carmody and Sean Keane did best for Asdee while, Shane

Stack, Owen Stack, Brian Stack, Donal Leahy, John Jack Mulvihill and

Martin Stack were among the Moyvane stars on the day. Team; Asdee;

James Kelly, Eoin Kelly, Martin Collins, Con Carmody, Conor Keane,

Sean Keane, Kieran Kelly, John Doran, 1pt, Darragh Keane, 2pts, Paul O

Carroll, Eoin Kennedy, Jack Keane, Mike Breen, 2pts, Eoin Tydings,

1pt, Dinny Dalton. Subs; Keith McNamara for Dinny Dalton. Brian

Coughlan, Ivan Tydings,Referee, Pat Sheehy, Clounmacon.

OMMISION. Recently omitted from a Scor item (Looking back the years)

on local Scor news from the St. Marys, Asdee G A A Club was the name

of John Paul Galvin who was a member of the Ballad Group along with

Jeanette Keane, Jimmy Quinn and Paddy McElligott that represented the

Club at the Munster Senior Scor Finals in Clonmel back in 1996. In

fact John Paul was always very much involved in the Club being the

Clubs first Scor Officer for over a decade, Secretary of the first

Bord Na Nog Club in 1987  and very much involved at all Underage

levels for years along with always been a loyal supporter, This was a

mistake on my part and it certainly wasn’t intiontional.
