Beale GAA   05/12/2016

The AGM of Beale GAA Club will take place on Saturday, in Ballybunion Community Centre at 8.30pm.  Beale Coiste na nÓg hold their AGM on Thursday, 8th December, in the dressingrooms at the sportsfield at 8.00pm.

In our last competition of the year, Beale/Asdee/Ballylongford play Knocknagoshel/Brosna in the Under-21 North Kerry Championship. We await details of further fixtures.

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Strictly Christmas as the dancing couples perfect their moves in preparation for Beale GAA’s annual Christmas extravaganza, “Strictly Come Dancing”, on Tuesday, December 27th, in Ballybunion Community Centre.  14 couples have been taking lessons for the past number of weeks, under the expert tutelage of Jackie O’Mahony of Tralee Music Society and Miltown/Killorglin Fame Stage School. A great night’s entertainment is planned with the dancing competition, bar exemption and a disco to round off what promises to be the event of the festive season.

Local postwoman, Mags Brennan, may be busy delivering cards and Christmas presents but she stills finds time to get some practice sessions with her partner, John Brennan. Beale Ladies’ forward, Marie Kennelly, leads the charge on stage instead of the football pitch on this occasion with her partner, Conor Liston. Jo Jo O’Sullivan may have played alongside Marie on the pitch but on December 27th, they will be n opposition as Jo Jo will be vying for the title, with her partner, Jackie Hegarty. Continuing the strong link with Beale Ladies, we are sure former chairperson, Mollie Breen, will be shouting for her mam, Jacinta as she dances with Con Mulvihill. Mag Scanlan will be tripping the light fantastic with John Joy, while Cormac Cahill will be hoping to give “super value” for the price you pay on the night as he dances with Tara Moran.

Connections to last year’s “Strictly” is somewhat of a family affair as James Fogarty, Anne Marie Buckley and Johnny Stokes O’Sullivan, will be showing their siblings of last year how it’s done on the dance floor. Johnny, with his partner, Pam Meaney, will be trying to upstage his brother, Penny. James Fogarty dances with Natalie Herbert and Anna Marie is partnered by Kevin Lynch. Their brother, Jack Fogarty, strutted his stuff twelve months ago on centre stage with Siobhán Gleeson. Or maybe it’s their nephew, Corey Meehan, who will be the real Michael Flatley of this event as he dances with East 73rd’s Sarah Blake, who we understand has been taking lessons from her mam, Chrissie, who performed last year, with local fireman, Danny Scanlan.

Mike Beasley will be hoping to teach his son, Declan, some of his moves (on the dance floor). Declan took part last year and this year Mike will show him how to really move, as he takes to the floor with his partner, Carmel Carolan.  Ger Buckley reckons that whatever his wife can do, he can do better – well, it remains to be seen as Ger, partnered by Michaela Ladden, follows in Caitriona’s footsteps of 2015. The Farrells too are continuing the family tradition. Last year, club chairman, John, lead the show with his partner, Ita Walshe, and Martina danced with John Hennessy. Now Berni Kendlin takes up the family mantle, dancing with Diarmuid Toomey and her niece, Georgina Keane, steps it out with John Hannan. Tickets, €20, are available this week from the dancers. Show your support for the dancing couples by voting for them - €2 per line – and one couple will be voted the public choice on the night.

Ballydonoghue GAA men, Robert Bunyan and Eamonn Holly, have compiled a booklet on all North Kerry Championships down through the years. A copy is available in Ballybunion Library.
