RESULTS: Co SFL Div 3: Regulation playoff Ballydonoghue 2-10. Keel 2-10. At the end of normal time. After extra time the sides were still level at 2-13 apiece.
We certainly put those disappointing performances of the past few weeks behind us in this game. Even though we didnât get the required win we still live to fight another day. After putting in a tenacious performance that saw every player to a man leave everything on the field of play and one can ask for no more than that.
Considering the wet and windy conditions, this turned out to be a high scoring game that had supporters on the edge of their seats until the final whistle deep in injury time of extra time. It was great credit to both sets of players to serve up such an entertaining and exciting game. We led by a point at half time 1-4 to 8pts. After we raced into a three point lead right from the start. We still led by two with five mins to half time but then Keel goaled to take the lead. But points from Darragh Sheehy and Paul Kennelly gave us that one point advantage at the break. Playing into the wind in the second half we had it all to do but 10 mins in we were five points to the good after Jack Foley found the Keel net 1-10 to 1-05. Keel then kicked three points without reply before Damien OâCarroll finished off a good Ballydonoghue move for our second goal. As we approached the final minutes Keel pulled a point back and deep in injury time, were awarded a penalty that left just a point between the sides and seven minutes into injury time a 45m free that took the game to extra time 2-10 apiece.
In extra time we were two points up at half time playing with the wind. Keel threw everything at us in the second period. We still held a two point advantage as we went into injury time after both sides had exchanged points. Keel then made it a one point game and as the clocked ticked on they were awarded not for the first time in the game a rather dubious free that they duly converted as the referee blew for full time.
