NORTH KERRY LEAGUE. Asdee 1-12   Duagh 3-4  Asdee senior footballers eventually got their first game of the season underway when they travelled to Duagh on Sunday last to take on the home side in Round 5 of the North Kerry Football League Division 2 and after a well contested encounter played in perfect underfoot conditions the visitors after enjoying the lions share of possession throughout were very happy to hear the sound of the final whistle. This was a game that Asdee looked to have wrapped up on at least two occasions but fair dues to Duagh they dug deep and coming up to the final whistle it was the visitors who were clinging on to their 2pt lead with Duagh in full flight in search of the score that could have yielded them victory. The game opened with the home side setting down a marker and within 3mts both Ger McCarthy and Denis Lane had their side ahead by 2pts without reply and only for some poor shooting in front of goal could have been further ahead before Noel Long set up Eoin Kennedy for a goal 2mts later. This seemed to spur on the visitors and points from Noel Long, Mike Breen and Eoin Tydings,(2) had them cruising 1-4 to 0-2 by the 17th minute. Now whether Asdee took their leg off the pedal or not but in a quick break-a-way by the home side left Duaghs wing back John Joy who took advantage of some slackness in the Asdee defence and he hammered the ball to the net with 10mts remaining in the half. The remainder of the scorers came from Eoin Tydings and Noel Long for Asdee with Tom Scanlon replying for Duagh and at the half time whistle Asdee led 1-6 Duagh 1-3. On resumption it was Asdee who were quick out of blocks and inside 7 seconds Eoin Kennedy split the uprights to increase his sides tally. Without doubt the introduction of Aidan Kelly in the opening half proved to be a masterstroke for Duagh as he was to be very much involved in the home sides recovery as the game progressed even though they had to do without their sharpshooter Ger McCarthy who retired injured early on. Aidan Kelly pointed for Duagh but it was Asdee who extended their lead with points from John Doran, Eoin Kennedy,(2) Mike Breen and by the 11th minute with Asdee in full control leading 1-11 to 1-4 the game looked over. Both sides were off target but Asdee were full value for their 7th point lead. However with the visiting keeper James Kelly in possession the ball was clearly pulled out of his grasp and Aidan Kelly sent the ball into the empty net;  controversial but the goal stood. Substitute Paul O Carroll sent over for Asdee and with under 8mts left for play it was 1-12 to 1-4 for Asdee. Duagh were still not finished and a defence splitting movement  out of  defence saw John Curran blast to the net from an acute angle and make it a 2pt game. 5mts remained and as the ball swung from end to end it was Asdee who finished deserving winners despite a great fight back from Duagh. Team and scorers; James Kelly, Con Carmody, Martin Collins, Eoin O Carroll, Brian Coughlan, Sean Keane, Kieran Kelly, Darragh Keane, John Doran, 1pt, Mike Breen, 2pts,(F), Eoin Kennedy, 1-3, (f), Micheal Walsh, Dinny Dalton, Eoin Tydings, 3pts, Noel Long, 2pts. Subs, Paul O Carroll, 1pt for Dinny Dalton, Keith McNamara for Micheal Walsh, ,

Upon resumption, it was the visitors that started the brighter in the second half with an extra 1-4 on the scoreboard by the 15th minute. Asdee/Bally however got to grips and late goals, one of which was a penalty, from Eoin O’Connor brought the homeside closer.
