SFL Division 2 Round 11Kenmare 2-10 Rathmore 0-15You would have to say that it was the goals that decided this tight promotion encounter. The first came courtesy of midfielder David Hallissey who showed great tenacity driving at the Rathmore goal and the ball lodging in the net on eighteen minutes gave tremendous impetuous to the Shamrocks.
When the half time whistle came Kenmare led by two, 1-7 to 0-8, with Brendan OâKeeffe and Eoin Lawlor providing most of the scores for Rathmore, with the evergreen Aidan OâMahoney kicking the point of the half from midfield.
There were tense moments in this wintery encounter but Stephen OâBrien was ice cool when he slammed in a goal off the crossbar on 34 minutes. Patrick OâShea pointed a minute later to put Kenmare 2-8 to 0-10 to the good but Rathmore clawed their way back into the game, mostly through the accurate free taking of Eoin Lawlor.
It was another fabulous Aidan OâMahoney point that levelled the game on 58 minutes but the last score came to the home side. Sean OâShea showed great nerve with a tricky free from the left to put Kenmare a point up and the referee decided that 30 seconds was sufficient over time and Kenmare rejoiced at their promotion to Division 1 of the County League for the first time since 1989.
