Dr. Crokes 6-22 Glenbeigh/Glencar 1-11
Glenbeigh/Glencar travelled to Killarney to face an unbeaten Dr. Crokes team in the last game of the County League. Glenbeigh/Glencar ran out deserved winners, when the two teams met in the league last time out. Glenbeigh/Glenbeigh did not need anything from the game this time around as, after another great campaign from the players and management team, their division one status had already been secured for another year. Both teams
had a full compliment of players with the exception of Fionn Fitzgerald for the hometeam. Daithi Casey scored the first point of the game, but Gavan O Grady quickly responded with a fine effort to level the match; Crokes had an explosive start opening a 1-06 to 0-01 lead, thanks to a converted penalty, but Glenbeigh/Glencar showed great heart responding with a Tommy Cahill goal and excellent point from Caolim Teahan. The game was over as a contest midway through the half, as Crokes went on a goal bonanza putting five goals past Donal O Neill; in Donal’s defence he was helpless, as the Crokes forwards were on fire and finished every goal effort clinically.
Gavan O Grady converted some great frees but Crokes led at halftime by 5-10 to 1-06. Glenbeigh/Glencar were disappointed to lose Caolim Teahan and Jack Brosnan to injury with the Mid Kerry Championship on the horizon.
It was more of the same in the second half, as Crokes gave a masterclass adding some brilliant scores. Gavan Grady did his best to carry the game to the hometeam, scoring an excellent point from play and four converted frees, as Crokes ran out winners with a 6-22 to 1-11 scoreline. The Gooch gave his own masterclass in the second half, picking out passes at will. It is a credit to the likes of Glenbeigh/Glencar, with their limited resources, to
have their division one status already secured.
