Both teams need to win here for slightly different reasons, Emmets to try and cement their status in Division 2 for another year while Listry needed to get themselves out of relegation trouble.

In miserable wet conditions the encounter did not disappoint the large crowd in attendance as it literally had it all from the get go.

Emmets’ Ciaran Pierse, who was making his first Senior start of the year, opened the scoring for the home side with a well taken point to settle things down after a shaky two minutes. Listry's Derry Aherne, who would prove to be a thorn in Emmets side for the remainder of the afternoon, soon levelled however through a placed effort before Listowel began to take control around the middle with Cormac Mulvihill and Tom McCarthy picking up a lot of loose ball. Bryan Sweeney, who was showing well, fired over a good score before Pierse drove over his second from a rolling ball soccer style. Sam Tarrant was next to open his personal account to put Emmets 0-04 - 0-02 up with 15 minutes on the clock. Two Derry Aherne scores either side of a David Keane free kept the visitors in touch before Keane completed the scoring of the 1st half with another dead ball from 21 yards to leave the half-time score Emmets 0-06 Listry 0-04.

The second half was a lot different than the first as the visitors upped the tempo considerably hitting the front through a messy goal as the ball broke in the Emmets’ square. Three frees in a row from marksman Aherne pushed Listry further in front as Listowel just couldn't win a breaking ball and when they did they found it extremely difficult to penetrate the Listry defence. With a quarter of the game remaining Cormac Mulvihill fired over an excellent 45' to stay in touch but Kieran Murphy cancelled that score out with his own dead ball effort. Emmets were hanging in there now and were working hard to try and find gaps in which to supply substitute Noel Kennelly but to no avail. They were given a lifeline with 10 minutes on the clock as Shay McKenna was dragged down for a penalty which Cormac Mulvihill drilled past Colm Counihan to leave just one between the sides.

The East Kerry side held on however and ran out winners on a score-line of 1-07 to 1-09.
