Beaufort 8-11 Listowel Emmets 1-13
Beaufort Senior team, sponsored by Maurice Foley of MF Decorating, played hosts to Listowel Emmets on Sunday, 23rd July in Round 9, Division 2 of the County Senior League. Both teams were quick off the mark with two points from Listowel Emmets’ David Sheehy, one from a free and two points for Beaufort's Fergal Hallissey, both from frees, within the first four minutes. However, a quick goal from Beaufort's Jonathan Kissane edged the home side in front in the fifth minute.
The lead was short lived with points each for Bryan Sweeney, Cathal Keane and two for Sam Tarrant, one from a free, following swiftly. Beaufort were awarded a penalty after a foul on Jonathan Kissane. This was taken by Liam Carey and was on target once again, putting Beaufort in the lead. Listowel Emmets answered with a point from Sam Tarrant and another from a free for David Keane, but with a goal each for Ciaran Kennedy and Niall O'Connor and a point from O'Connor all going unanswered, Beaufort looked comfortable, as the clock headed towards half time. Darragh Leahy scored Listowel Emmets ninth point twenty-five minutes in, but not to be out done, Beaufort's Ciaran Kennedy hammered in his second goal of the afternoon after a great sprint down the centre of the field and, just on half time, Mike Breen rounded out the first half with another point for the home side. Half time: Beaufort 5-04 Listowel Emmets 0-09
Scoring got under way in the second half as swiftly as it did in the first, with points for Liam Carey for Beaufort and a point from a free for Listowel Emmets’ David Keane. Over the next five minutes, Beaufort further extended their lead with a point each for Fergal Hallissey, Jonathan Kissane and Ronan Murphy and a further goal, this time for Ronan Ferris. David Keane pointed from a free in the thirty-seventh minute and this was very swiftly followed by a goal for teammate David Sheehy. Ronan Murphy added to Beaufort's plethora of goals in the thirty-eighth minute, extending the home side’s lead by 15 points. David Keane added another point from a free, but this was answered by Beaufort's Fergal Hallissey coming in with two points, one from a free. Beaufort's Padraig O'Sullivan was shown a yellow card and Listowel Emmets were awarded a penalty for the foul, but this was well saved by goal keeper Mike Moriarty. Beaufort's final goal of the afternoon was scored by Niall O'Connor. Listowel Emmets’ Cormac Mulvihill answered with a point, but a further free for Beaufort's Fergal Hallissey ended the day’s play with a point for the home side. Stand out players of the day were Darragh Coffey for Beaufort and Brendan Guiney of Listowel Emmets for their ground work and setting up scores.
