Na Gaeil 2-14 Brosna 0-12
Na Gaeil entertained Brosna in Round 9 of the County League in Killeen on Sunday. Brosna got off to a flying start and totally dominated the first quarter reeling off five points without reply. Adam Barry scored two and Tom McGoldrick, Daniel Fitzgerald and Timmy Finnegan scored one each. Na Gaeil finally found their rhythm with Mike Griffin and Diarmaid Herlihy scoring two points a piece, followed by a Darragh Carmody free to level matters up at five points each on twenty minutes. Tom McGoldrick scored another point for Brosna, but the crucial score of the half came when Na Gaeil’s Seamie O’Neill struck low and hard to the right hand corner of the Brosna net. Tom McGoldrick had another point for Brosna and Darragh Carmody fired over two more frees for Na Gaeil, to leave a goal the half time whistle: Na Gaeil 1-07; Brosna 0-07.
Na Gaeil were first out of the blocks after half time, with points from Eoin Walsh and Mike Griffin. Pa Moriarty pulled one back for Brosna, but Darragh Carmody pointed another free for Na Gaeil on eleven minutes. Brosna dominated for the next ten minutes and scored three good points through Timmy Finnegan, Tommy McGoldrick and Adam Barry to leave two between the sides after 20 minutes of the second half. However, Mike Griffin scored two great points for Na Gaeil to widen the margin to four. Tom McGoldrick replied with another Brosna point on 24 minutes, but the wind was taken out of their sails with a well taken goal from Na Gaeil substitute, Dara Devine, when he pounced on a loose ball that broke out of the square with 28 minutes gone in the second half. Eoin Walsh tacked on another point for the home side before the final whistle, to leave the full time score: Na Gaeil 2-14; Brosna 0-12.
Na Gaeil will be happy to come out of this hard fought game with two points. Paul Daly, Eoin Walsh, Dave Culloty and Kieran Donovan were solid in defence. Eoin O’Neill and Dan O’Connor held their own at midfield while up front Darragh Carmody , Mike griffin and Diarmaid Herlihy worked very hard to create scores.
For Brosna: Shane Fitzmaurice and Flor McAulliffe impressed in defence. Eamon Kiely played well at midfield and up front Adam Barry, Timmy Finnegan and Tom McGoldrick were always a threat.
