2017-07-23 22:37:00
Austin Stacks 1-12; Glenbeigh/Glencar 2-14.
Glenbeigh/Glencar kept their chances of a League final spot very much alive, with this well-deserved five points win at Connolly Park on this Sunday afternoon. The home side had a good start and were two points up inside the third minute with David Mannix and Pa McCarthy on target. By the tenth minute, the visitors had levelled with a pointed free by Caolim Teahan and one from play by Gavan O'Grady. However, the scores that put this game to bed came in the space of the next two minutes - a goal each from Glenbeigh's two
corner forwards - Kieran Courtney and Daniel Griffin. They went on then to score five more points - two each by Caolim Teahan and Gavan O'Grady and one from Fergal Griffin.
Then, after David Mannix pointed a free, the Rock gave themselves some chance when Darragh O'Brien goaled late in added time, but Kieran Courtney had the last say of the half with a last minute point, to leave the Mid Kerry boys ahead at half time by double scores (2-8 to 1-4).
Stacks tried their best in the second half , outscoring the visitors by 0-8 to 0-6, but those crucial first-half goals by the visitors were the difference in the end. The result leaves Glenbeigh/Glencar in a favourable position for a top two spot, while Stacks on the other hand are in deep trouble of relegation, with only two games remaining for both sides.
