Glenbeigh/Glencar   1-14    An Ghaeltacht  2-16

Glenbeigh/Glencar hosted An Ghaeltacht on Sunday afternoon in the Co. League, both teams on ten points behind Dr. Crokes in the League table.  Glenbeigh/Glencar were without Darran O’Sullivan, Caolim Teahan and Tommy Cahill.  The home team started the better with a great score from fullback Kieran Doyle, as he drove up the field, playing a one two with Gavan O Grady, calmly slotting over the bar.  This was quickly followed by a great point from Gavan, when Colin McGillicuddy showed great awareness after robbing the ball from his counterpart.  Eanna O Conchuir was to have an excellent match, which started with his first of the game to make it 0-02 to 0-01.  Tomas O Se levelled the game soon after, as the match had signs of being a great one with some excellent football from both teams.  Podge Griffin nudged Glenbeigh/Glencar with another high calibre point.   Rory O’Connor pulled off a brilliant save to keep Glenbeigh/Glencar on top and Gavan O’Grady increased the lead with a well taken free.   An Ghaeltacht's forwards looked very lively from the start and hit the net for the first time, from the boot of PJ Mac Laimh to take a one point lead.  Two tremendous scores came for the home team in the shape of another converted free from O’Grady and a great drive from Pa Kilkenny, a one two with O’Grady and a well taken point.  Again, An Ghaeltacht responded with a free.

The match was end to end with An Ghaeltacht resorting to short kick outs, such was the dominance of Colin McGillicuddy and Feargal Griffin in midfield.  Two more points were added by the home team from Gavan O’Grady and Podge Griffin, as they tried to open a significant lead playing with the wind.  Oigi O Se pointed for the visitors, before Kieran Courtney showed his usual composure in front of goals, when finding the back of Tomas
Mac an tSaor's goal, after great work from O’ Grady and Jason McKenna in the build-up.  Feargal Griffin gave Glenbeigh/Glencar a five point lead with yet another fine point, but just as it looked like Glenbeigh/Glencar would make it to the break with a good lead, Tomas O Se found the back of Rory O’Connor’s net again in another slick move for the visitors.           Dara O Se brought the game back to within a point, but another excellent point came from
Glenbeigh/Glencar when Jack Brosnan took off like a hare with his long stride to make the halftime score 1-10 to 2-05.

Glenbeigh/Glencar held a two point advantage at the break, but this was quickly eroded in the second half by points from Sean M O Conchuir and Dara O Se.  Glenbeigh/Glencar responded with another fisted point, this time from Gavan O Grady after a high quality free from Pa Kilkenny found his cousin in space.  An Ghaeltacht started the second half with more urgency and added two more unanswered points, making the score 1-11 to 2-09, but a Gavan O’Grady free kept the home team in touch.  An Ghaetacht were dealt a blow, when
Cathal O Flannachta was sent to the line.  A Eugene Courtney point brought the home team back to within one point, but the 14 men of An Ghaeltacht were in the ascendancy and scored six excellent unanswered points from Eanna O Conchuir (2) Ciaran O Celleachair, Dara O Se, Oigi O Se and the impressive Tomas O Se.   Bernard Murphy scored late on, but it had been 12 minutes or more since their last score.  Tomas O Se capped a fine performance with the final score of the game.   Glenbeigh/Glencar will be disappointed, after putting in a great performance for long periods, to come up short in the end, but An Ghaeltacht owned the second half and ran out deserved winners by a scoreline of 1-14 to 2-16.
