Cromane 0-14, Knocknagoshel 1-7
Cromane made it two wins in a row in Division 5, with a stirring second half fightback at home to Knocknagoshel on a windy Sunday afternoon. The stiff breeze favoured the visitors in the first half and they were decamped in the Cromane half for the first quarter. A feature of the half was the long-range kicking of Knocknagoshel midfielder, Michael Walsh, who kicked three excellent scores. They led by 0-2 to no score after ten minutes and had stretched their lead to 0-5 to 0-2, courtesy of Walsh's third after 20 minutes. Two Paul Patrick O'Sullivan frees hauled Cromane back to within one, 0-5 to 0-4, after 27 minutes. However, then the away side opened up their biggest lead of the game courtesy of a fine goal from Niall Barrett just before half time. This pushed his side out to a 1-6 to 0-5 lead
at the interval.
Cromane restarted well, using the breeze wisely, and kicked three points (Paul Patrick O'Sullivan (free), Micheál Shaughnessy, and Lee Carey) within three minutes of the restart to narrow the gap to one, 1-6 to 0-8. Knocknagoshel's John O'Keeffe gave his side some respite kicking their only score of the half to push them two ahead, 1-7 to 0-8. With the game in the balance, Cromane needed some inspiration: step forward Mikey Houlihan who kicked three points in five minutes, including two mighty lofted efforts from 40m out to put Cromane ahead, 0-11 to 1-7 with ten minutes left. Cromane finished strong and points from Paul Patrick O'Sullivan (two) and Finbar Casey sealed a four-point win.
