Knocknagoshel 1-4 Austin Stacks 1-11

The home side went into this game with a depleted outfit and it was to prove too much to gain a result against an experienced Austin Stacks side.  Knocknagoshel did get off to the brighter start with a long ball into the penalty area, resulting in the award of a penalty, which David O'Donoghue duly dispatched to the net. Theo Diggins got the visitors off the mark with a well taken point in the fourth minute and this was followed by two points
from play from the lively Dale Counihan, to level matters by the twelfth minute.  John Dennis was handling a lot of ball in the middle third for Stacks and he converted a free in  the fourteenth minute, to put his side ahead for the first time.  Austin Stacks were starting to run at the Knocknagoshel defence and created an overlap, which resulted in a goal for
Andrew Moynihan in the fifteenth minute.  This was followed by a point from Dale Counihan and three consecutive points by the excellent John Dennis.  After a foul on John O'Keeffe, Niall Barrett lofted over a point from the resultant free to leave the half time score at 1-1 to 1-8 in favour of the visiting team.

With the wind to their backs, Knocknagoshel matched their opponents in the second half and had the opening score with a well taken point from David O'Donoghue.  Niall Walsh closed the gap to five points, with a point from the right hand side in the 41st minute.  Dale Counihan continued to be the fulcrum of the Stacks attack and he pointed in the 47th minute.  Knocknagoshel defended stoutly through Gary Downey, Denis Collins and Conor

Sheehan and were rewarded on the counter attack, when Conor Sheehan slotted over a well taken point from the left hand side.  Dale Counihan pointed a free, after a late tackle on Danny Carroll and Andrew Morrissey of Radio Kerry fame got his name on the scoresheet with the last kick of the game, to leave the final score at 1-11 to 1-4 in favour of Austin Stacks.  Knocknagoshel are likely to struggle for the next few matches, until some of their injured players and those doing their leaving cert return to action.  Meanwhile, Austin Stacks will take encouragement from the result and will be looking to build on the result over the coming week's matches.
