Castlegregory 0-10, Sneem/Derrynane 0-10.
Castlegregory and Sneem/Derrynane shared the spoils in a hard-fought Division 4 Round 3 encounter, played at Castlegregory on Saturday evening. With two wins to date, the home side might have been considered favourite by some to take the points. Sneem/Derrynane, however, had the upper hand when the teams met last year. As both sides were setting up defensively, space up front was at a premium. Anto Kelliher opened the scoring with a point from play after three minutes. He followed with a pointed free following good work by Minors, Michael Scanlon and Jimmy O’ Grady. Full forward Ronan Hussey and corner forward Ian Galvin posed a major threat for the home defence and contributed all of their first half scores. Further points by Scanlon and Kelliher (2) for Castlegregory left the half time score at five points each.
Castlegregory introduced Micheál Ó Sé at half-time and began to establish a better foothold at midfield. Sneem/Derrynane threatened to pull away with two points from Ronan Hussey early in the second half. A pointed free by Alan Fitzgerald and a fine effort by Micheal Ó Sé from 45 metres kept the home side in touch . Posing a double blow to their chances, Castlegregory lost Micheál Ó Sé and Enda Whelan to injury with ten minutes remaining. With the teams deadlocked at nine points each, they won a free in the left corner. Alan Fitzgerald pointed the pressure kick to put his team ahead by a point with two minutes remaining. Despite some great defending throughout the game, the home side could not deny their opponents and when the ball fell to Ian Galvin 40 metres out, he pointed to draw the game. Final Score: Castlegregory 0-10, Sneem/Derrynane 0-10.
