Castlegregory 3-9 Duagh 1-8.
Castlegregory had a ten point win over Duagh in Round 2 of the County League, played in Castlegregory on Sunday. With surface conditions beginning to firm in the sunshine, all expectations were for a free-flowing encounter. Duagh opened the scoring with two points in quick succession from Ger McCarthy (free) and Kieran Lucey. A goal by Jordan Quirke, following a defence-splitting run by Alan Fitzgerald, saw the home side go ahead. Another goal from Colm O’ Mahoney quickly followed before Daniel O’ Donoghue and Ger Mccarthy for Duagh and Jimmy O’ Grady exchanged points. Anto Kelliher found the net on the 11th minute to extend the Castlegregory lead. They struggled to maintain their opening dominance and were confined to two further points from Anto Kelliher and Colm O’Mahony. Daniel O’ Donoghue, meanwhile, kept Duagh in touch with two points to end the half. Half time score Castlegregory 3-3; Duagh 0-6.
Castlegregory continued their dominance with a point from Colm O’ Mahony on the resumption. Alan Fitzgerald collected the subsequent kick out, transferred to Timmy Moriarty who pointed. As the matters proceeded, the game was interrupted by numerous late tackles and off-the ball incidents, which limited it as a spectacle. The result, however, was a foregone conclusion as the match entered the final quarter, but Castlegregory failed to capitalise on their dominance with a succession of wides. Aaron O’ Connor managed to breach the Castlegregory defence to goal for Duagh. Jeremiah Kelly followed with a point in what was Duagh’s final score. Anto Kelliher (2) and Jordan Quirke increased the winning margin for the home side, who were comfortable winners on a score of 3-9 to 1-8.
