ARDFERT 2-10 CURROW 2-08 2017-07-11 00:32:00

Ardfert 2-10    Currow 2-08

This game was played in sunny Ardfert on Sunday last, March 26th.  Conditions were ideal with a decent crossfield breeze.  This game was played at great pace with both teams giving a full-hearted display.  At the quarter hour, Currow were ahead by one point, despite being down four points previous to this. Currow opened the scoring with a point from Padraig O'Shea, but Ardfert took over scoring 1-02, points from Eoghan Courtney and David Griffin and a real poacher’s goal from Cian Hussey.  Paudie Carroll’s effort at a point hit the upright, but Cian Hussey was alert and scored the first goal of the game.  This, however, energised Currow and they hit back straight away with their own goal from the kick out, courtesy of Daniel O'Shea.  They then followed with two points from John Buckley and a free from Daniel O'Shea.  Currow were now a point ahead.  The second quarter continued in a frantic pace with both sides running the length of the field and scoring some great points.  Currow added another four through John Buckley, Seamus Scanlon and two from Daniel O'Shea, one from a free.  Ardfert's scores came from Eoghan Courtney, Paudie O'Carroll and John Egan. The half time score was Ardfert 1.05 Currow 1.07.

At half time, Ardfert introduced Bobby O'Regan and Damien Wallace. The second half was mainly dominated by Ardfert, who scored 1-05 to Currow’s 1-01.  After the first quarter in this half, Ardfert were leading by three points, thanks to points from Paudie O'Carroll, John Egan, Damien Wallace and a great goal by Shane Griffin.  Currow, however, were given a lifeline, when they were awarded a penalty.  This was taken by sub Mike McCarthy, who gave Nicky O'Sullivan no chance in goal.  Currow introduced three subs in this half, Alex Fleming, Mike McCarthy and Shane Brosnan.  Mike McCarthy had a major influence in the game, scoring one goal and one point.  The game was now equal, but Ardfert Captain John Egan put his team ahead with a pointed free and Trevor Wallace travelled up from the full back position, to score the last point of the game.  Ardfert missed many chances in the second half and were very happy to secure a victory.  Currow had great performers in Luke Fitzgerald and Kevin Daly, who tormented the Ardfert defence.  Seamus Scanlon had a great game in the middle of the field, with some great fielding and excellent distribution of the ball.  Ardfert were best served by Jerry Wallace, Trevor Wallace, David Griffin and Eoghan Courtney.  Final score:  Ardfert 2-10  Currow 2-08.   Referee was Michael Hennessy from Ballyduff.
