St Pats 1-08     Kilcummin 0-19

Kilcummin took all the points in this keenly contested encounter played in Blennerville last Sunday, in which Kilcummin's Philip Casey scored 7 points, 2 from frees.  The away side scored the first two points of the game in the first 5 minutes, through Noel Duggan.  St Pats raised the white flag through Willie Hurley after some excellent play by David O'Callaghan. Kilcummin raised their game and scored four unanswered points to stretch their lead with Willie Hurley pulling one back for St Pats.  The away side were on the ascendancy at this stage and, playing with a lot of purpose, with their players always ahead of their markers for the ball. This was reflected in the scores as the home side trailed by seven points after 24 minutes.  Brendan Poff gave hope to St Pats after 26 minutes, when his solo play resulted in the green flag being raised.  The turning point of the game came a few minutes later, when Kieran Hurley was sent off for retaliation against Kevin Gorman.  With a man down and already trailing the game, it was always going to be difficult for St Pats to close the gap, despite the brace by David O'Callaghan afterwards.  Kilcummin made their extra man pay off, when Philip Casey found himself with acres of space to kick a point over, leaving half time scores at St Pats 1-04 Kilcummin 0-10.

The second half started the same way as the first, with Kilcummin seizing control of the game and a minute into the half, Richie O'Connor fisted over.  Early in the half, Kilcummin's goalkeeper, Kieran Fleming was penalised for time wasting and the resultant throw ball led to a Pats free, which was converted by David O'Callaghan.  Fleming redeemed himself mid-way into the half by making a point-blank save from Kevin O'Shea, who found himself in with a goal chance. Breandáin Savage scored a couple of good points, but it was not enough as Kilcummin ran out comfortable winners on a scoreline of St Pats 1-08 Kilcummin 0-19.
