DR. CROKES 3-12 RATHMORE 2-12 2017-07-10 23:18:00

Senior County League Division 1 - Round 2

Dr Crokes 3-12 Rathmore 2-12 played in Lewis Road

In a game which was played at championship pace,  Dr. Crokes got out on top with an injury time goal.  The game looked like ending in a draw as we entered into time added on. Rathmore were on the attack, but a great ball win by substitute Brian Fitzgerald led to a Crokes attack and a wining goal by Tony Brosnan.

The teams exchanged points on three occasions in the first ten minutes.  A goal by the visitors in the 11th minute put them a goal in front.  A goal and a point by Tony Brosnan put Dr. Crokes a point ahead at the end of the first quarter.  The teams just scored two points each in the second quarter to leave the home team leading at half time 1-6 to 1-5.

Whatever was said to the visitors at half time, they came out strongly at the start of the second half.  They had three points without reply in the first five minutes of the third quarter.  Dr Crokes had a point in the 39th minute, but a goal by the visitors two minutes later put them four points clear.  The home side kicked two points to Rathmore one in the next few minutes, to leave the visitors a goal in front at the end of the third quarter. Crokes got back on level terms in the 47th minute, when Chris Brady struck for a goal.  The game was now there to be won. Both sides sent over a free each and exchanged a point each from play as we entered injury time.  Rathmore went on the attack, but Dr Crokes won a ball in their defensive area, attacked up field and scored a match winning goal.

The highlight for Dr Crokes was Tony Brosnan's 2-4 from play and goalkeeper Shane Murphy three points from placed balls, two 45's and a free outside the 45 and his great kick outs which set up many attacks.  Rathmore should be disappointed, as they probably deserved a draw after giving a great display.  Both sides were missing a number of influential players, but the quality of the football showed that both sides have plenty strength in depth.

Team and Scorers: Shane Murphy 0-3 (0-2 45's, 0-1 free), John Payne, Mike Moloney, Cilian Fitzgerald, Shane Doolan, Alan O'Sullivan, Mike Milner, Ambrose O'Donovan, PJ Lawlor, Chris Brady 1-0, Gavin O'Shea 0-1, Brian Looney 0-2, Tony Brosnan 2-4, Daithi Casey 0-1, Kieran O'Leary 0-1.
