Rathmore 3-07      An Ghaeltacht 0-09 

Rathmore won this Division 1 first round game by seven points and ensured the points with two goals from John Moynihan and a penalty from Mark Reen.

An Ghaeltacht were first to show, kicking three points within three minutes.  The points came from Marc Ó Sé, Dara Ó Sé and Sean Baimbaire.  Rathmore replied with two points from Mark Reen on the fourth and twelfth minute.  Rathmore began to dominate through Mark Ryan and Donal O Sullivan at midfield.  John Moynihan got the first of his two goals in the twenty fifth minute, after receiving a long pass from Mark Ryan and finishing low to the left of Tomas Mac an tSaoir with the minimum of effort.  In very heavy conditions, when scores were hard to come by, this was to be a very decisive score.  Neither team managed another score for the remainder of the half, despite much effort on both sides, leaving the half time score: Rathmore 1-02 v An Ghaeltacht 0-03

The second half was two minutes old, when Brian O’Leary was fouled and Mark Reen found the net with a well struck shot.  An Ghaeltacht got the next two scores from Sean Michael Ó Conchuir in the third and fourth minute.  By that point, they were thirty minutes without a score mainly due to solid defending by Rathmore, where Brendan O’Keeffe and Cathal Murphy were in the central positions.  Rathmore had a big hold on the game, kicking four points between the sixth and tenth minute through Mark Reen, Daniel O’Sullivan, Donal O’Sullivan and John Moynihan.   John Moynihan finished off the game with his second goal in the twenty fifth minute.   An Ghaeltacht kicked a further four points with the Sean Michael Ó Conchuir kicking two frees, Dara Ó Se and Eanna Ó Conchuir getting one each.  John Moynihan finished the scoring in the thirty second minute to finish the game with       2-02 to his name.  Full time score: Rathmore 3-07 An Ghaeltacht 0-09.
