John Mitchels played Austin Stacks at home in Round 2 of the Co League. Before the match commenced, there was a minute's silence for the late Denis (Dinny) O'Connor, Austin Stacks Club.  It was a beautiful sunny day with a very strong wind blowing into the complex end of the pitch.  Stacks played with the wind in the first half, but it was Mitchels who scored first with a point from play from James Duggan.  This was followed with three points by Stacks’ David Mannix (2), Shane O'Callaghan(1).  Mitchels were next to go on the score board with a well taken goal by Niall Sheehy, leaving the score at 1-01 to 0-03 in the first quarter.
Points from Shane O'Callaghan and Sean Dukes of Austin Stacks put Stacks a point ahead. Michael Wrenn scored a wonderful long distance point from play.  David Mannix scored a further point from play which was cancelled out with a point from Alan O'Donoghue.   Sean Dukes put Stacks two further points ahead and Niall Sheehy replied with a point from play for Mitchels and the last score of the first half was a Shane O'Callaghan point for Austin Stacks.   The half time score John Mitchels 1-04, Austin Stacks 0-09.

John Mitchel’s Sean Moloney opened the scoring of the second half with a point from play, reducing the deficit to one point.  Stacks dominated the play for the next ten minutes with points from David O'Sullivan, David Mannix, Shane O'Callaghan and Mike O'Donnell. Mitchels then hit a purple patch with scores from Alan O'Donoghue (1-01), Niall Sheehy(1-0), George Bastible (0-01) and James Duggan(0-01,) leaving the score line John Mitchels      3-08, Stacks 0-13 heading into the last quarter.

With Mitchels back in the lead, the pace was fast and furious and it was Stacks who went on to score 1-02, giving Stacks a one point lead. Mitchels levelled the game again with a Shane O'Connor fisted point.  David Mannix scored another point from a converted free to give Stacks the lead.  Shane O'Connor levelled the game with a point from play and Mitchels struck a well taken goal by Lawrence Bastible.  The last score of the game was left to Greg Horan Stacks with a point from play leaving the final score Mitchels 4-10, Stacks 1-17.      This was a great performance by John Mitchels against their neighbours Austin Stacks.  Both teams served up a wonderful game of football and kept all present entertained for the duration of the match.
