KERINS O RAHILLYS 0-16 AUSTIN STACKS 1-08 2017-07-10 22:07:00

Kerins O Rahillys     0-16              Austin Stacks   1-08

Kerins O Rahillys gained two valuable league points on Saturday night, when proving too good for their town rivals on a final scoreline of 0-16 to 1-08.  Playing with the aid of the breeze into the score board end, Rahillys found themselves behind within half a minute, when Stacks worked the ball through for full forward Alan Duggan to fire to the net; However, that score was nullified within 10 minutes with Rory Molloy (operating on the "40") firing over three points from play and Gavin O’Brien adding another. Rahillys fell behind again on the 13th minute, but then pushed on in the next ten minutes with fine scores from Danny and Diarmuid O'Sullivan and a brace from John Ferguson, who was proving a handful for the Stacks defence.  Rahillys were unlucky not to have goaled on a couple of occasions, when Diarmuid O’Sullivan had a shot blocked on the line and John Ferguson firing off the post with the keeper well beaten.  The final ten minutes before half time was a poor patch for Rahillys, when they allowed Stacks back into the game and they found themselves behind at the short whistle 1-06 to 0-08.  Rahillys also lost Shane Brosnan to a recurrence   of his hamstring woes on the stroke of half time and he was replaced by Darragh McElligott; Stacks were reduced to 14 men five minutes before half time, when Denis McElligott was shown a second yellow card and this was to prove a major handicap for them in the second half.

On the resumption, Cormac Coffey drove forward and split the posts to level matters, but Rahillys fell behind again to a converted free by Shane O'Callaghan on the 35th minute; this was as good as it got, however, as Rahillys assumed control around the middle with Cormac Coffey, Cian Sayers , Karl Mullins, John Ferguson and Gavin O'Brien in command, which led to a succession of scores from John Ferguson ( 3), Cormac Coffey(1) & Gavin O’Brien (2), to leave Kerins O Rahillys ahead 0-15 to 1-07 approaching the final minutes. Rahillys defence was on top too in this period, with Ross O'Callaghan and Tommy Begley imperious and the final scoring was shared, when Stacks had only their second point of the half and first from play on the 57th minute and, fittingly, it fell to Cormac Coffey to have the final say, when raiding forward, he found his range to leave Kerins O Rahillys victors on a five point winning margin.  Final score:   Kerins O Rahillys 0-16, Austin Stacks 1-08.
