Rathmore 2-13 Kerins O’Rahillys 0-05
Rathmore easily overcame Kerins O’Rahillys in the Round 5 Division 1 game in Ráthbeg. Shane Ryan played in goal and Aidan O’Mahony played at centre back. Rathmore seemed to absorb the loss of Paul Murphy much better than the loss of David Moran and Barry John Keane, who are on county duty with Kerry.
John Moynihan was in fine form up front for Rathmore and scored the opening goal after two minutes and setup his neighbour Dean Fitzgerald for a difficult tap in after thirteen. Shane Ryan regularly found his younger brother Mark from the kick out, where the latter dominated proceedings with the injury free and improving Donal O’Sullivan, who scored the opening and closing points of the half. John Ferguson was the best forward for Kerins O’Rahillys scoring two points, even though he was closely marked by Cathal Murphy. Gearoid Savage kicked the other two scores for Kerins O’Rahillys from a free. The half time score was Rathmore 2-07 to Kerins O’Rahillys 0-04.
The game was effectively over with no major threat from the visitors in the second half. Eoin Lawlor kicked a point in the second minute, and by then all six forwards had scored. Rathmore ran the bench and Mark Reen continued to score freely after much endeavour. Gearoid Dillane kicked a good free for Kerins O’Rahillys, but by then Rathmore had an additional six points on the board. Final score: Rathmore 2-13, Kerins O’Rahillys 0-05.
