CASTLEISLAND DESMONDS 0-12 AN GHAELTACHT 2-16 2017-07-10 20:58:00

Castleisland Desmonds 0-12     An Ghaeltacht 2-16

The team from West Kerry An Ghaeltacht arrived to Castleisland on Friday evening to play Castleisland Desmonds’ senior men’s team in round 7 of the division 1 Kerry County league.

This game was played in beautiful sunshine and after eight minutes of play gone in the first half, we were to see the first score from An Ghaeltacht with Dara O Se open his account with a point from play; this was duly followed by full forward Seán M.Conchuir score the first of his three points in the first half.  Desmonds opened their account with full forward Graham O’Connor scoring a point from play on the tenth minute.  We were to see the An Ghaeltacht No 13 Oigi O’Se open his account with a point in the next minute.  An Ghaeltacht, who were aided with a strong breeze to the backs, and we then saw a mix-up amongst the Desmonds defence and it resulted in a ball across the square and Tomas O’ Se scored the opening goal of the game.   Then, Desmonds’ Gearoid McCarthy score a point from play in the 16th minute and on the same minute, Dara O’Se made a run from midfield and he scored the West Kerry’s side second goal and it was now 2-04 to 0-02 on the 16th
minute.  Unfortunately, Desmonds were guilty of missing some easy scores in front of
the opposition goals, which was to prove costly in the half and this resulted in An Gaeltacht scoring five points, two from Tomas O’Se and one each from Colm O’Muircheartaigh,          PJ. Laimh and Sean M.Conochuir.   Desmonds Corner forward Cian Hickey O’Connor was tormenting the Gaeltacht full back line with some great solo running at goal and we were to see him fouled twice and Cian O’Connor scored the resulting frees.  Hickey O’Connor added a point from play himself to leave the score at the short whistle:   Desmonds 0-05,  Gaeltacht 2-09.

Desmonds fared better in the second half and Pat Fitzgerald scored a lovely point from play in the first minute and Sean M.Conochuir replied with another point from play for the visitors.   Colm Murphy, who had been introduced to the game, and with him now pulling the strings in the half forward line for the home side, it resulted in three points, one from himself and two frees from Cian O’Connor, but Gaeltacht had come to Castleisland
intending to win this game and we saw them score three more points, three from
Dara O’Se, and 1 each Eanna O’Conchuir, Sean M.Conchuir and Cathal McGearailt, and this was to see them finish the game on 2-16. Desmonds scored three more points, from Cian O’Connor, and one each in the dying embers of the match in Stan Divane and Cian Hickey O’Connor to finish the game on 0-12 at the final whistle.
